I have a friend that said I've wasted money buying Snap On sockets. He said that Sunex sockets were just as good. What do you think?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

many on here will say that they are not as good - and they are likely not as good, but that does not mean they will not do the same job. If you are a professional and going to be using them every day, every hour, and over and over again, chances are they will not hold up as well. They may not be constructed with the same degree of specifications as the snap on and may (MAY) round fasteners - but I doubt it.

You spent more money on your sockets, but will get better service (hopefully), and they are warrantied for life, will not round fasteners (if used properly) and they'll look nicer in your tool box.

Snapon tools are more expensive, but generally you get what you pay for, some things are over priced and I would go to a house brand name, but sockets, extensions, ratchets, wrenches, and some other things I wouldn't buy any other name.

When I bought my first "new" set of impact sockets, I went with Grey Pneumatic (similar to Sunex) and plan to replace them with Snapon or MAC when they ware...all depends on your finances, and your plans of how/what you want to do with your tools.

previous convos with guys that wrench professionally and have real world experience, in one case , proto impact sockets outlasted and outperfomed snapons ...... another was a guy that had new snap on flare nut wrenches to replace his gray's and wound up returning them after showing the dealer how the grays [ over 20 years old] would remove brake line nuts after the snap ons would spread and slip........been wrenching for ove 40 years now and not impressed by a name anymore but then again, i don't depend on tools to save time to make money, i abuse them to get the job done....

I have some sunex impact sockets that work good. I also have snappy impact sockets that work good. Haven't broken any of either brand.

Duel to the death! Industrial grade coupling nut, ratchet and 6 point socket of each flavor, vise corner or welding to secure the coupler, you both pull away until one socket explodes! Get it all on YouTube!

I got a set of cheap (think they were trident) impact sockets when I 1st starting in the trade and the 13, 16, 17, 19 and 21 have had to be replaced with snap on either due to rounding or splitting down the side but I have no experience with sunex so can't give you a definative answer just saying that in my experience cheap impact sockets are bad news when used day in day out

For chicom, sunnex is a damn good socket. I own complete 3/8 and 1/2 sets. Only sockets in my road truck and they serve me fine. That said, I don't regret buying SO, mac, matco and SK in my main box.

I say it's your $$, spend it however you like. If the tool works, what difference does it make WHO makes it. There's a guy on here who uses all HF Pittsburg brand, and they work fine for him. For the record, the only Snap-On tools I have are a couple of ratchets, some extensions and a ratcheting screwdriver. I sold all my other ones (wrenches/sockets/screwdrivers/pliers,etc..) when I stopped wrenching for a living. Now MOST of my stuff is Allen or K-D and I have some mixed specialty stuff. These will last the rest of my life for the type of work I do on cars.

My bad, your right. I read into these a bit more and yes they do say Taiwan. That would definately explain the pricier tag. I use Kobalt wrenches at work and for being Taiwan made they seem to be pretty nice.

Never heard of these Sunex tools till now...

i have a bunch of snap on sockets and many sunex. better? hard to say, I don't have the exact same socket line up for each brand and do not do the exact same job the same amount of times with the dueling sockets so it would be hard to say if one was better than the other. sunex cheaper? totally. sunex easier to warranty? not for me... not sure when the sunex truck (make believe) is stopping by to warranty my worn out socket like snap on does no questions asked. there is a certain price you pay for after sale service. it might be substantial to the average person, but to a pro it is a PITA to have to send a socket away to get warrantied and wait for it to come back

as many others have found most impact sockets are pretty darn good no matter whos name is on the package. if HF was across the street from my shop I would probably use HF sockets as I could walk and get it warrantied that day

Tell your friend he sure is smart, and since he is your friend your willing to give him two of those great Sunex sockets for any of the Snapons he has.
