Finally, after closing in on the end of my house construction, the driveway and shop apron are getting a base coat of asphalt today. As some of you recall, the shop has already been built for well over a year, so the house and landscaping needed to be finished before this important phase. Below, a photo of the apron and driveway from the street:

Can't wait to drive home this afternoon!!!

Are they going to doze that dirt and put a nice compacted base, or just pave right over what you have? Doesn't look very flat or even good base material for asphalt.

Nate-

That picture is actually an old one, May of 2008. It's the only one I could find...not to worry, the entire driveway & parking apron has a good crushed gravel compacted base. I'll post a finished picture after the final coat, approx. 2 weeks or earlier.

YOU CAN'T TEASE US LIKE THAT!!! We need pics!!! :lol_hitti

Seriously though, this is one of my favorite builds here. Nothing too silly/over the top, just a REALLY nicely executed simple concept (albeit on a much larger scale than most of us could swing).

I was just wondering because I lived at a house were if you parked something for too long it would sink in the pavement. I think the base wasn't done right, just a quick throw it down over mud and call it good.

Not to mention that the driveway was at a 20% angle at least. My old Subaru couldn't even hold the grade because the clutch was a little worn out!

As promised, here are a few pix of the base coat, already tracked-up and muddy from the finish work for topsoil and hydroseed prep. Finish coat is scheduled for late next week or early in the following week. I also threw in a picture of the back (the wife calls it the front....don't get me started!) of the new house:

Dang.... awesome house and property and garage and driveway and... everything! Nice place you got there. Some driveway too.... I think your driveway is going to cost more than my entire garage project... and driveway... and some of my house!

Wow.... Just.... Wow...
I always liked your shop build, but seeing the WHOLE package just makes it all that much better. You have a lovely home/property. The care and thought put into it is very apparent, enjoy it.

Thanks for the kind words everyone....a long-time dream to not only build a shop but a log home has finally come to fruition. A lot of hard work was put in by many contractors and our young, energetic GC who completed the house and coordinated all the puzzle pieces. We're throwing an open house later this month on the 27th for all our friends, family and contractors who helped. Any GJ'ers who find themselves in the area (Berlin, VT) on that day, let me know and you'd be welcome too.

Hey GHOSTDANCER: I read your post above, but the pictures still load fine when I access my website in the normal fashion. Do you have a firewall or image blocking software running?

I just noticed the lawn. IS THAT SOD ??????? Did you win Lotto ??? Your whole home/property looks great ! The only question I have is why the garage isnt closer to the house. Looks like a long walk in the winter. Please dont tell me the driveway is heated !:)

That is an absolutely gorgeous home you have. I love the architectural details!. I have to echo mikester's comment about the lawn! What type of grass is that? It looks like a carpet!
