I have a wood arbor and pond dock made of pressure treated wood. It's getting pretty beat up in the Texas summer sun and I think I need to apply some kind of treatment to keep the wood's longevity.

I've looked at Thompson and others at the big box store, but concerned of toxicity around the pond, etc..

I came across this - http://www.homediystuff.com/diy-wood-oil-sealing-and-protection-naturally/ which basically recommends a vinagrette of Canola oil and vinegar. Anyone think this is a good idea?

Anyone have a recommendation for a relatively low cost way to treat this wood that doesn't pose toxic issues?

Linseed oil diluted with mineral spirits can be a pretty good protectant. It's what I'm using as I restore several wood-framed, casement-hung stained glass windows in my house. Recommended to me by a specialist wood shop here in St. Louis that restores/makes new windows and doors.
