Wood / Cold Chisel & File / Rasp Storage?

I'm currently re-organizing my tools and the one thing that I'm really scratching my head over is all my chisels & files...

Right now they are just taking up a drawer in my toolbox all loose and it really bugs the **** out of me...

I'm not OCD to where I need them individually secured in a nice row, but I would like to have them where they aren't just rolling freely banging around. I don't use them *that often* so easy access isn't a necessity.

Was thinking possibly like those silverware trays or similar organizers? That would probably work for chisels (wood & cold), but my files I think would be too long.

I have a few nice wood chisels, was thinking of finding a small tool roll for them maybe?

How do you guys organize them?

For my blacksmithing and wood working stuff (wood chisels, rasps, brace bits, files, cold punches, drifts, etc) my wife made me tin cloth tool roll/pouches. Organizes them, keeps the moisture away and slightly oils them. For my mechanic punches and chisels I use those silverware organizers and a big one for files.

Funny thing but a few years back my son for his work in a pizza shop needed me to cut some aluminum pizza trays in order to make them fit better next to the oven. I thought the cut off parts would come in handy one day...

I made holes in the aluminum and attached them to the wall and they now hold all my files, at least they will not bang into one another.

Recently put all my sockets in Hansen trays and I had a few of the old metal boxes HF impact sockets came in. Made for pretty nice punch and chisel storage, I was just going to throw them out. Worth a try if you have any kicking around.

That's exactly what I did. I don't have that many, so I dedicated one drawer of my HF toolbox to chisels, punches and other similar items. Cheapo organizer tray from WM, and now they're all neat looking.

Talking about sharp objects, how do you keep/store sharp wire brush, from poking at your fingers, if you grab the wrong end ?

My wire brushes are hanging on pegboard for easy access because I use them often.

Nice job o the file storage. Have you posted that in the thread for repurposing items? It would be fitting for that storage method.

Exactly this. All my wire brushes (all two of them ) are hanging, so I can clearly see what I am grabbing. That's a mistake you only make once.

If they are collector tools, I keep them in drawers. If they are user tools, I like to keep them handy. Here are a few of my stands.

Files need handles and that makes drawer storage a problem. My grinder room has unfinished walls and that was a good opportunity for a nice file stand.

If you have access to the rear of your pegboard, you can make nice racks from wood and attach them using drywall screws. Bonus is that the holes are already drilled.

Mine are in drawers. I'll post photos because my previous posts of them were probably lost to the photobucket fiasco. These photos are old so unfortunately the system is over flowing now and I need a bigger ….garage!

These trays are more of the free shipping trays from the hardware store also.
