I have a neighbor lady I help out from time to time. Without asking my advice she tried refinishing 12 marimbas with Danish oil. As you probably know, you apply, wait a few minutes and wipe off. She applied 2 full coats with a brush and never wiped it off. Now she has a sticky mess. It’s been 2 days now. If we leave in out in the sun will it eventually dry? If it’s got to be stripped it would be months to refinish. Thanks

Mineral spirits, or just slather on a good second coat of Danish oil, and it should soften the first coat.

She learned the hard way, but when you apply funiture type stain, you wipe it on, and off again within a few minutes.

Try a rag soaked with mineral sprits (odorless paint thinner) to wipe off the excess.

^^^^This. Then let it sit and wipe off every few hours. For several days. I finished a walnut box with DO. Second coat wiped off after 10 min, then sat for 2 days with a periodic wipe as oil seeped out. Then repeat again for 3rd (wet sanding when applied, but that's a separate thing).
