Wood flooring over carpet??

I have a different sort of flooring question for you folks. I'm converting my old office into a woodworking shop and the cement floors currently have a thin, tight, commercial carpet that's glued down securely. Since doing work over carpeted floors isn't the brightest of ideas, I'm considering installing a plywood floor directly on top of it. My question then, is this a dumb idea? Since this carpet is thin and well attached, it seems like it would provide a bit of cushioning to the cement floor. It's the 'Law of Unintended Consequences' that has me taking pause.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

glue tongue and groove sheets together on top making a floating floor , you may have problems with expansion and lifting if you fasten anything down through it or have a lot of heavy equipment pinning it down in different places

I was thinking of something similar, only cutting away the area under heavy equipment (cabinet saw, etc.) and placing those on their own, separate, pieces of wood. The hope was that would keep them from warping the rest of the flooring. Hopefully that makes sense!

It might work out OK, but I agree with "Volleyball" on this, it's best to scrape the floor clean and be done with it.

It's not that simple. This room was originally used as a wet lab for aquatic research. To keep from constantly falling on slick floors, I epoxy painted the slab with powdered walnut shell added to the mix. Think of it as permanently attached, 60-grit sandpaper! No matter what you did, you were not going to slip on a wet floor. Short of grinding the slab, this stuff will never come off. Yea, I could peel the carpet off, but why do that if there's no good reason.
