Wood Flooring

Looking for the copy of Consumer Reports on wood flooring (yes I know this is the GJ), I'm looking to pull up the carpet in the whole house and replace it with wood. What is the best wood over concrete? Engineered hardwood flooring? All I know is not enough too know. Thanks for any information. rngr1

I don't know that answer but you also have to consider moisture coming up from the concrete. If you tape a square of plastic over the concrete and leave it for like 24 hours, it should have little or no moisture trapped under it. Otherwise you'll have problems covering it with hardwood.

Engineered is typically recommended over concrete. That being said, you can go 3/4" solid HW and glue it down. In my climate (extremely dry) it was a no brainer to go this route. In a wet climate, I might think otherwise. I like the fact that with solid HW, I have 2-3x the number of refinishes I can do vs. the engineered....and most of the engineered I looked at looked cheap. There are good ones out there I'm sure.

Either, it's preference

You'll need vapor/water barrier for either. You don't want to just lay it on concrete.

Another option is wood style ceramic/porcelain tiles. I just had wood style porcelain installed in a 400sqft garage and couldn't be happier. Check out the reviews on home depot. Everyone loves them. I would post up pics but its hard to on my phone.

I'm a hardwood guy for a living. You've got s few options, If you want solid, you may be able to glue directly to concrete, Or throw down 3/4 ply then nail to that

If you want site finished engineered, Graf , sheoga, WD , ashawa bay, Owens. All make it in several sizes and species.

There are precautions to take w concrete as far as moisture goes

Wood flooring guy here as well, when I lay wood over concrete I like to drylok it first, then vapor barrier, then lay the floors over that.
