What's better, wood or metal garage? I may be in the position to build a garage soon (a position I never thought I'd be in), so my first question is building material. I've only ever worked in wooden garages, but every builder online seems to offer metal pole barn types. It seems like metal would be loud, more expensive, hot, less options for attaching shelves, no insulation, etc... but a lot of people seem to prefer them

I work on cars for fun, so lots of grinding, welding, etc, so being in a tin can seems detrimental to me and my neighbors.

What are your opinions?

Wood structure in an environment that sees a lot of grinding, cutting and welding, needs some extra materials added below the maximum working spark height to reduce or prevent turning the facility into a smoking pile....Food for thought....Beyond that, it's pretty much down to personal choice for what materials to use. Typically, north of Oklahoma, wood is more prevalent for small shops, while south, steel is king. One thing for us in the south, nature hasn't bred a steel eating termite yet...
