Wood peckers

I have wood peckers making holes in my Drivit on our house. Nothing works to get rid of them. I've used spiders, owls, wind chimes, moth balls and other methods to repel them. Fill the holes and they drill them back out. I am thinking about covering it with Hardy Plank or lick and stick stone. Any suggestions?

Yeah, so just let them destroy your house? I used to have a woodpecker that cut a hole into the side of my house. He "left"... snake shot in a .38 special really discouraged him..... But he did fly away on his own power.

We had a neighbor who worked for the Department of Natural Resources and had a woodpecker problem. Someone told him to bait a rat trap and fasten it to the side of the house to catch it. It caught a bird but not a woodpecker, and he removed it. I thought it was funny!

I understand. My house has vertical cedar siding over brick, and for years the woodpeckers have been attacking it. Though, they do make perfect 1" diameter holes, I'll give them that. I used to keep a bucket of 1" cedar plugs, hammer, glue, stain. Once up the ladder, pound it in and wait until the next one.

I tried mirrors, owls and no success. This past year I bought four of these:

I bought them with a lot of reluctance, thinking no way these are going to do it. But I have to say, for the past year I've not had to repair any woodpecker attack holes. Though last week I heard the common "thud thud thud" of a woodpecker, pecking the neck of the fake owl I had put up years ago.

I was told the owl had to be positioned so as to not be rigid. I hung him from a wire. 20 years ago, no more pecker holes.

My neighbor had an Owl Decoy on a string which the Woodpeckers bored a hole in!

Most times, a Woodpecker "hears" bugs inside/behind the wood which is what he is looking for.
Though they do bore nesting holes.
Mine seem to die of natural causes?

Use the silver mylar hanging strips, from a monofilament line with the fishing lure spinner joint so they turn with the wind. They have kept woodpeckers away from my cedar siding for years. Ace hardware carries the kit.

I have a Pileated woodpecker that every morning goes at it on my homemade smoker i built. It wakes me up every morning at 5 am lol i swear he knows what he is doing. I go outside and he looks at me and then flys away, comes back when i close the door and goes at it again. I would think hitting metal like that would give him a headache lol

You know ever time they “peck” they have to close their eyes.
If they didn’t the force would blow their eyeballs out their head.

They will sometimes hammer away at the metal roof built over our trailer.

Woodpeckers are destroying my barn!!!

My new barn has been attacked by pileated woodpeckers! So far I have over a dozen holes straight through the siding. I have tried decoys and hanging flashy things from the soffit, but they just go lower on the siding. Anyone have any other ideas to successfully drive them away?? To replace...

with all the guys with compressors here, one would think someone would rig a sensor that released air from a valve anytime it detects movement or hammering. Peck - wwhoosh. That would scare the s out of any bird.

They have a device setup like that at Disney to simulate the whole 3D experience. I like the compressor idea. My son works from home and hears the wood pecker knocking holes in his window trim. I was thinking about setting up a drop net from an upper window to mitigate the racket.
