Hello All,
Trying to identify the maker and/or model of this plane. It is in rough shape and may be missing some parts. I can see no obvious identifiers but haven't cleaned it up much aside from brushing the surface crud off with an old paint brush. Any help appreciated. Thanks

No clue, but lots of interest in finding out.
Not exactly the same plane, but some interesting similarities

Just to complete this thought, here is the "unimproved Phillips" plane

RTM,
Yes, that looks like it. I also found one listed on ebay. Mine is in very rough shape but I will give it a light cleaning to see if it has any identifying marks. I am not a plane collector but couldn't leave it behind at a recent barn sale, it just looked old. Thanks for your help.

Nice work!

Honestly, I was not familiar with the Phillips planes.

Have never seen one in person.

Gonna have to keep my eye out for one, as I’m sure I could find some space for it😜

Great Suff!!
I've got one that looks to be the same.
The makers mark stamp says:
Phillips Plough Plane -Pat Aug 1867
Babson & Repplier
7 Doane St Boston,
And is stamped with the number 85 in several places.

I am looking to make a handle for it and put it up for sale. Any suggestions what you folks might think it's worth?? I have found one in nice condition at about $800, and another in very nice condition with cutting blades for about $1300.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

G

This reply is for Gmann555: It's a Phillips Mayo Improved like this one. I'd sell it as is. Let the next guy make a handle. If you don't do a perfect job using Brazilian rosewood, it's not going to add to the value. That new depth stop isn't helping either. It's distracting to people that know these planes. I think you'll be lucky to get $500. for it. 4741E351-3BF6-41BC-92BF-FA8FED4FBFBF_1_201_a.jpeg

Wow, thanks for your reply!! I appreciate your input.
What do you think, is Garage Journal or Ebay the best way to go?
I know Ebay may have a bigger audience, but this may be a better audience.

I'm new to this forum / group and haven't sold anything here but may be willing to start.
I have other machining and automotive tools that I will be looking sell in the near future.

^ Ebay unquestionably has a larger market.
There are all kinds of woodworking collector sites.
