Finally got my Vermont Castings Defiant wood stove setup and burning wood in my shop!! The walls are 2x8 with R30 insulation and a 6mil vapor barrier. For the stove I have 5/8" fire code drywall wrapped in galvanized J-channel, then corrugated sheets installed with 1-1/2" stand-offs to create the air space. The Defiant has a heat shield but is 28" away due to the need for a oval-to-round adapter and a T pipe to go vertical. All stove pipe is 8" Durablack and 8" Duravent through the ceiling support box and above the roof. Even though the pipe is supported from above I bought a nice tripod screw jack and attached a thick piece of aluminum on top of the screw and it resides underneath the T for additional positive support. I welded a frame to corral the brick on the floor as I wanted a traditional hearth look but did not want to mortar them to the floor. All in all it works awesome. When the stove is around 600°F the stove pipe is around 200°F - 275°F at the thermometer...and the corrugated heat shield is cool to the touch!!
