I am almost done building my top for my snap on box just s solid core door. We Routered the sides to keep stuff from rolling off. I was wondering if i wanted to put a design in the muddle should i paint it in or try and router it or and then fill it in with varathane? I was going to put s few coats of polyurethane on the whole thing to protect it.

I would stain it like a cherry or ash colored stain something dark it would be slick it's what I'm going to do to my box, was going to use butcher block I never thought of a door I can get a solid antique door from my MIL she has a house made in 1800s just hate to destroy an old door but she isn't using them anymore in favor for new decorative doors.

That routered section will fill up with dirt, dust, rust, metal, shavings, debris, etc and may be a real pain cleaning out.
