wood vs. coal??

a local guy had a wood stove and a coal stove for sale. what is the difference? couldnt you burn either in the stove?

Brian has the idea with the temp diff. But he has it backwards.
Coal burns a lot hotter.
That is why yu can make a wod burner ot of a steel drum, but you cannot burn coal in it.
The higher heat will burn through the sheet metal too fast.
Coal furnaces are cast iron or heavy steel.
