ON a philosophical level, I dont understand it when people make decisions based on 'how far out of town I am', or 'there are no inspections around here'.

IMO, I do the right thing even when people arent looking.

Be it tossing a splice into a wall cavity, or cheating on your partner.

If the code doesnt permit something, why do it?

You mean like the further out you are from town, the further are the fire trucks from your fire?

While some code is helpful, other is intended for bureaucratic nonsense, and the rest is there to protect the bottom end of the gene pool.

While you are on your high and mighty "by the book" horse, I'm sure you have conducted some manner in your life less than so.

And I find a the reference to cheating on one's partner a bit bizarre. Not sure how wiring my building in a manner I deem safe to my family has anything to do with adultery?

The applicability of NFPA 70 is between the owner, his insurance company, and the local fire department.

I believe the OP holds a PE license, and as such has a clear understanding of his accountability.

As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't run wire in my shop that way. I'm too clumsy to think I wouldn't whack a wire with the said piece of angle.

LOL. 'bureaucratic nonsense'- sure, whatever.

In terms of 'protecting the low end of the gene pool', I guess since you are a smart one, you dont need no stinking rules? Or is it that you and only you gets to decide what is 'safe for your family'- no gummint man gets to make that call, eh?

No one said anything about not needing any stinking rules. Certain code is overkill when someone equipped with common sense is around. You have shown your true colors and have made judgement of work I haven't even started yet, with no true point of reference or knowledge of said direction. If you would like to further this please send me a PM, no need to muddy up Andy's thread.
