That's a good selection of screws that you found. They will greatly assist you with your sheet metal projects but they are less than optimal for wood. When wood screws are used for attachment, they hold part "B" to part "A". The threads should freely pass through part "B" and should grip strongly into part "A". So the shaft on woodscrews does not have threads near the head. Drilling a proper pilot means using a tapered drill so the smooth shaft will allow the screw to move freely in part "B".
