Hey everyone,

I'll be embarking on a few projects this winter, and want to do some research. I'll be buildings a shelving system and workbench in the garage, building furniture for my office (time permiting) and remodeling a room in my basement (moving the restroom and laundry room...). I'm looking for sites or books that not only have good ideas, but good info on how to build these things. Plus, I get bored a lot and like to look at new websites  I'm sure I'm not alone there.

Good Bi-Monthly Magazine

For the last year or so I've been picking up a little magazine (if you call it that) called ShopNotes. (www.shopnotes.com)

I've been impressed enough that I finally went and became a subscriber. When I called to make sure that they didn't send me the most recent issue because I'd just picked it up at the newsstand, their customer support was excellent.

Now for how this relates:

The magazine has been wall to wall with ideas on storage ideas, organization, etc. When I say wall to wall I mean it. Except for mentioning particular brands of what they used and where you can get them yourself, they don't have advertising.

I just pulled a random issue out and they've got: Sliding door shop cabinet, table saw tune-ups, high tech tune-up tools, Fold-Away tool stand, Under Stair Storage, and Router Bit Rack as their featured articles.

They've had a couple of issues where in addition to the project in the magazine they've put additional information on their website, such as a PDF of the plans, or perhaps an additional plan for a similar tool but with a couple of modifications.

All in all, I definitely recommend them. They have definitely gone into my valued resource category on my bookshelf.

(And now for the legalese - Other than being a recent subscriber, I have no affiliation with them)

I started searching a while back for woodworking projects, although I never really have time right now to start much less finish anything. Anyway, I just googled "woodworking", "freeplans" and a couple other variations of woodworking terms, plus specific projects such as "workbench". I came up with tons on links and information. I came across this one guys website about his woodworking workbench. It was beautiful. Plus he had a 60 page PDF you could download that documented the whole process. I've since lost the link but just start searching and you'll come up with more than you can process. Goodluck

I've been doing that, but I seem to get crappy sites most of the time. I've found a few good ones though,
HTML:
www.blackanddecker.com
has some project ideas,
HTML:
www.askthebuilder.com
is pretty informative.

I spend more time than I should at www.WoodNet.net forums.

There are a few others like Woodcentral.com out there as well.

I found them by doing a Google search for "Woodworking forums"

I'm going to hijack this thread for a second or two for a request--if any of you have built risers for your washer & dryer, can you drop me a PM? (why buy when you can build??).

I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
