Woohoo, got another bench grinder.

Thank you craigslist. I've been after another one since I bought my 1/3HP one from an estate sale in March. Saw this one on CL a couple hours ago and called immediately. 1/2HP Craftsman 397.19590. The left eye shield glass is unfortunately broken and the right wheel guard is missing but for $20 I couldn't pass it up. Even got two buffing wheels and a couple other grinding wheels with it as well. Anyone have a right side wheel guard they're willing to part with? I'll get a couple pics of my own in a bit with everything in one shot.

The reason the right side guard is missing is because they don't fit with most wire wheels. The wheel fans out at speed and the guard brakes the wheel. A wire wheel on a bench grinder is one of the most useful things I've ever had, so I don't bother running the guard either.

yup. had to take my guard off of mine when I installed a knotted wire wheel

Nice deal for 20$! I just picked up a minty-ish complete 1/3hp Craftsman for 45$ at an online estate auction.

Did a bit of cleanup on the grinder and got a couple slightly better pics of it. Manufacture date of September 22 1966. Does anyone know why the right side shroud isn't the same as the left side? I didn't notice it until today when I took the wheels off. From the assembly pictures in the manual that's how it's supposed to be so nothing is wrong, I'm just curious as to why it's like that.

I'm jealous; I have purchased two 1/3 hp craftsman grinders for $20 off c/l in the past 6 months, but would love a 1/2 hp! Great find!

Nice grinder... I recently missed out on one like that on Craigslist that included a matching pedestal. It would have been a few hours of driving and I didn't have time to go get it 'til it was already gone.
