Hello GJ. Been lurking and reading up for a while and it's time to say hi. I live about 70 miles east of DFW and construction starts tomorrow on my 30x40 shop. I love to hunt, kayak fish and weld. I also spend time reloading ammo and shooting and plan to do some lite gun smith work in the future. Thank you to all the contributors on this forum, I continue to learn so much here and look forward to hanging out with you guys.

Woosley: i''m jealous that you are building your garage now because i'm a few years from starting mine. care to share what you are going to do with the garage? from all the threads I've read one of the main things not to cut costs on is the thickness of the cement floor so how thick are you planning on making yours?

if you are planning on having a lift, heavy machines or just don't want it to crack may i suggest making your at least 5 inches thick with steel reinforcement mesh and/or rebar in it? nothing worse than a cracked floor to roll your nice tools, car, pallet jacks and so forth on.

care to share any pictures of the proposed site or plans and maybe we can help answer any questions if you might still have some?

welcome

Thanks guys. The foundation will be 4" thick with beams and extra steel. We are adding in extra concrete for the car lift that will be added later. This is an all purpose shop and the heavyest thing in it will be my Dodge diesel truck. I'm really one of those guys that works on any and everything. Cars, bows, guns, tractors, 4 wheelers ect. I will start a new thread this week with pics.

Woosley: if the prep is good then 4 inches with steel should be ok. you might want to put your location in your profile so when you start your thread and have any questions the answers can be a little more area specific.

good luck and yes post up pictures here on the new thread and with your questions.
