Woot has some random Knipex pliers back on their Tools section today. I finally managed to pick up a pair of the insulated Linesman pliers for $19.99. Been trying to get a pair of those since Lowes cleared them out.

Great deal at $19.99 but the shipping kills it for me. If you can find something else to order with it to get more bang for your buck, great. But personally,I don't like woot's shipping program.

Thanks. Picked up a couple pairs of the combination pliers. One to add to my set and give my Dad the other. At $12.99 buying two with shipping makes them a good deal.

I got the insulated pliers wrench. Not sure why I need it since I already have a 10" pliers wrench with comfort grip...but couldn't pass for the price.

bought 2 pairs of the $19.99 linemans pliers. i've only used klein's version the last 15 years so we'll see how these perform.

i wonder how many people actually put the high voltage models to use in high voltage situations. over 277 volts i'm wearing a flash suit and hot gloves, lol.

You only need to get electrocuted once (and I mean electrocuted - not just shocked) and after that you will always be overly cautious.

It can stop your heart meaning you're technically dead. Some people are then able to be 'resurrected' if you like.

I sprung for the same item. You guys convinced me I 'needed' a pliers wrench:) And the insulated grips are a real bonus. But I think the 10" wrench is a little large for most of the electrical work I do :( Should have got the insulated linesman pliers but was too late for that.

I was considering the same thing, and returning the set I got at Sears last month, but then I'd have even more points to burn, I already have $130 in points I don't know what to do with (expiring in two weeks).

That is actually not a bad idea if working on a hot circuit, energizing one, etc. and you need to be fairly close for whatever reason, above 250V arc flash can occur and adds a whole new level of hazard beyond severe shocks, electrocution, etc. The 480V demo below is pretty scary :shocking:

^^This is why I have to wear arc-flash clothing at work. It's hot as hell in the summer, but it sure beats the alternative!

Thanks OP!

yeah, thats my point. high voltage pliers wont stop you from catching on fire if something goes wrong, getting shocked is not the only danger.

i'll take a flash suit and low voltage pliers over high voltage pliers and no hot suit any day .

I got the 10" Hi-voltage pliers wrench. It is really nice, especially the handles. I also have a 10" with red/blue comfort handles, and the hi-voltage handles are much more comfortable. The Hi voltage also have a metric guide printed on the slide that is not on the regular ergo handles.

Oh well, I am in for another. That gives me one in the electrical bag, one in the telecom bag, and a spare.
