Woot just posted a one day sale on a rolling collapsible tool box. Looks like double lid expanding clamshell design, 10.5" x 11" x 21.5" and a bit heavy at 44 pounds empty, but it is made of all steel and the OOC is...

Germany?

Okay, I know you expected me to say China, but no, it's Germany.

Kind of a neat system with it able to elevate to 30" high for tools on site. It would only carry hand tools, but it's kinda neat for $70 plus $5 shipping.

I'm torn. I sorta want one, but for carrying art supplies to the various comic conventions I go to as an artist / dealer. That could readily hold my sketchbook materials and pencils, but it would not hold my Copics. I also wonder if it would qualify for carryon with those dimensions. It just might!

Monte.... any input on the quality of this box? Does the company have a good reputation?

This is very tempting, looks to be a high quality cantilever box with rolling assembly for the price of a cheap Chinese box store box.

i don´t know, i never saw it in person...
but here is their customer list:

So if they make metal storage cases for companies like Metabo, Bosch, Mafell, Wurth, Flex and Tyco....i guess they do something right...

Matco used to sell them too:

Eastwood sells them too:

You sir, **** mightily!

Now each of my children will be getting one in the mail in a couple of days.
For now, they'll probably be sorting Lego's in them.

If I had the money and the space I would order it. It would be great to set up next to the car in the driveway while working on it. just take the tools you need for that job out of the big box and off you go.

I bought one too. Don't really need it, we are putting stuff into storage all the time because our house is on the market, but that didn't stop me from bringing home the Quincy or walker jack. For $75 I will take the *** chewing.

You might be able to get the box through security, but none of the tools inside would make it!

:)

My art supplies are simply cardstock, Prismacolor or Copic markers, blue pencil leads and holders, erasers, rulers, T squares, templates, etc. All go through security now.

****. I think I missed out on it at woot. Was this thing a one time deal ?

Woot deals are once a day. But you can also be fairly certain they will repeat the sale at a future date.

So, this post seems to have cost a half dozen people or more to buy the box. I guess we'll have some good reviews in two weeks or so when they show up in the mail.

I got my two yesterday.
I'm guessing they were so cheap, because they have some blemishes. I wouldn't accept that from Snap On, but at this price, I'm still very happy.
The steel thickness is clearly not like the boxes you see from China in the stores today. It really does weigh something like 40lbs, and is built like a brick house.
It locks in the down position, where you can pull it like a wagon, and in the up position. Not at any level in between though.

Received mine today, no damage, excellent condition. Built far more stout than I would have expected. I sort of wish it had a lock for the lids when closed. I might fab up something for that.
