Wanted a mounting system for my work/reloading bench where items can be quickly bolted down and removed using 1 tool from top of work surface. When removed, have access to entire work surface for other larger table-top projects. Turned out great and a rock solid mounting solution. No movement at all when item is bolted down. Got tired of hitting my knee on the underside of table using c-clamps. Plus, tired of removing c-clamps when folding workbench top against the wall as needed.

Purchased 3/8" brass threaded inserts(1/2 OD) at Woodcrafters. A 1/2 bit was used for drilling two blind holes in bench top. Once the inserts were installed, bolted down aluminum mounting plate and then bolted down a reloading press as just one example.

Tip: If installing brass threaded inserts for the first time in a hard surface, highly recommend purchasing an accessory t-handle that has the correct threads for screwing in threaded inserts(sold at Woodcrafters next to the brass inserts). There are two slot's cut in top of brass insert, but when installing in dense wood material, it's easy to break the thin brass raised insert slot while installing w/ flat head screwdriver. T-handle tool makes for an easy installation of these inserts, everytime.

A secondary fun project was installing a larger reloading press handle knob. A Hurst shifter knob now provides for faster reloads! It required a reducing threaded bushing which was part of the shifter knob's "universal" kit.

Very nice! And just in time!

I'm building a reloading bench and was looking at installing recessed tracks for a removable press. I may just go with treaded inserts now. Thanks for posting!

Thanks Maxx. Considered a universal t-slot track mounting system as well. Should I ever need/want one, would remove the brass inserts and route a 3/4" wide channel for the extruded 3/4" aluminum universal t-track, which would more than cover the orginal 1/2" drill holes I put down. Just made sure my two 1/2" drilled holes were in-line where a routed channel would go across the workbench top if needed. After finishing the mount project, I'm happy.

Should someone want steel threaded inserts vs. brass, look toward McMaster Carr's website. I believe they sell steel inserts from memory.
