I always go with 24" double thick 3/4 ply glued together with a surround of 1 inch hard wood [red oak] the rear extends up and the front level for a 24+1 = 25 inch counter top..........I do not know how tall [will have to measure as it is too cold to run out now] but followed advice for kitchen countertops....stand straight up bend your elbow at 90 degrees and measure that distance to the floor that is the maximum height for comfort I build mine 1-2 inches shorter works great for me..............bobbycoke

24" depth & a 4" piece of metal screwed to the back of the 1-1/2" thick wood top, for a backsplash. I used a 3/16" piece of metal on top of a double thickness 2' X 8' x 3/4" bench top. Finished ht is close to 38". I have rolling cabinets underneath, 3 of them fit perfectly.

I use duplex outlets mounted above the work bench. I have both 120 & 240 volt. The 240 V is a single of course.

I made my bench out of 4"x10"x8' which came out right about 36". I really like the depth. But that being said, it is not up against a wall and I get to use both side of it.
