I'm just getting started on mine, so I can't really make suggestions quite yet. Nice looking units there. I got a couple of birch tops and the same handles as in the top photo from Ikea last week. The rest will be 2x4 framing, 1x facing and mdf for the doors. The link below shows the general idea I've got for the first workbench -page 3. It's patterned after our kitchen cabinets, all the drawers up top for less stooping. I went with the epoxy floor and like it. I do have to do my welding outside though. I had pretty decent cracks in the floor and they're not detectable now.:) Good luck.

Depends on what you want, and what you consider cheap. You were a little vague.

I paid $150 for this workbench on craigslist. 3/16" steel top.

I'm cutting the legs off, building a 2x2" square tubing framework, and skinning it with light gauge steel for cabinets. The doors will be light wall 3/4" square tubing skinned with the same light gauge steel, or possibly aluminum.

I'm using these stainless hinges:

I figure I'll be into it for about $600 and have one hell of a solid workbench/cabinet combo.

Benchtop: $150
5 22' sticks of 2x2: $75 (auction sale)
hinges/latches/hardware/paint: $150

$375 which leaves me $225 for light steel/aluminum

I went with the Racedeck style:

I prefer the look of the epoxy but my floor has a number of coats of paint on it, and I'm too damn lazy to do the prep work required for epoxy.
