Patent a work bench? OK, but would copying one violate patent law? I realize that you are posting for ideas, but I'm reading way more into this (as usual).

Thanks for the information though, lots of good ideas here.

A patent is good for 20 years. You cannot even make a copy of a patented item for personal use (despite what most people think).

Looking through some of the patents in your link, many are slight variations of old designs. I think they would be difficult to enforce.

Do you think the patent holder is going to come after you for infringement?

Like I said, I went overboard about patent infringement, but hey, I sometimes over think stuff. I don't see the Patent Police breaking doors down, but hypothetically let's say you build one and post pictures on this forum and the patent holder sees them. It could happen, but then I could also flap my arms and fly to the moon. Just food for thought.

Honestly, there's not much the holder can do. I say this as a patent holder who has been ripped off. It costs $200K or more just to launch the case. Assuming you win - and the defendant has money - then MAYBE you'll get something.

Add to that the fact that about half the patents I see are simply laughable but somehow make it through the review process...
