Work bench rebuild

So I've moved into my late grandfathers old workshop and I'm in the process of getting everything... Back to scratch. I want to keep everything generally the same (I guess like putting muscle on. your skeleton is still the same)
So I'm starting off with the bench he made. It's a little miss match... So I guess I'll try and make it uniform all round and also make it function a little better too. To start with I basically removed all the panels. They where off a washing machine
So here is about an hours work so far.

I'm not sure what I'll do with the bench top - stainless or wood. Any input is gladly accepted!

For me it would depend on its intended purpose but I like stainless for the type of work that I do. Looks like a good sturdy bench. Have fun

Since your grandfather used wood, I would do the same. Can the original boards be used?

I was thinking of using the original boards. But they have holes all through them. The sentimental value is the over riding factor in this build...
