Work Boots

Whites. The only possible drawback is the weight which is part of the nature of boots themselves. My Whites are most comfortable if I'm doing a lot of standing, but if I'm doing a lot of walking, any work-style boots will feel like anchors after a while. Whites makes a shoe, but I have not tried it. I usually wear Allen Edmonds but don't look for work shoes there.

I wear steel toe work boots form Wal Mart. I put the double thick Dr. Schoels inserts in them, wear them every day, and my feet and legs never hurt by the end of the day. Most of the guys I work with do the same thing. So far this last pair I bought has lasted me six months, and they're just finally starting to need replacing. My father used to buy expensive boots upwards of 200 bucks, but he switched to the Walmart specials as well.

I can have a set of Redwings on for 12-15 hours a day and not have any foot/knee issues. I have to go get a new pair as, mine are well worn now.

How long do your guy's Redwings last, on average? How much walking/movement do you do? I've had a pair going on a year that are great on soles (concrete) but the insides might need some work. Getting a damn painful thing on the back of my foot for the first time with this pair. Bad enough that I might go to the foot doc. Weird. I put a new pair of their soles in about 2 months ago. They've held up well to dropping steel on them, machine oil, grease, etc.

I was talking to the guys I buy my boots from and they said that Redwings came under new management about then. Apparently they then decided to start moving some production overseas and doing away with large width ranges for several styles. My dad always bought Redwings because his feet were an A until the last set which were Bs and he is getting worried about being able to still get them.

My dad averages 2-4 years a set and he wears his almost all the time for everything. When I was doing refrigeration both of the guys I worked with wore Redwings and they said they lasted about 2-3 years for them.

+ 1 for Cat's. I work in Dan Post or Nicona, but for car/shop/junk yard, I wear Caterpillar branded. They are steel toed and very comfortable. I have very flat feet, in fact, no arch whatsoever and can still stand and walk in these for 8 to 10 hours no problem.

They have made some changes to the model since I bought mine so a composite toe may now be offered. But for a low cost 6" boot these work for me I paid ~$50 IIRC.

Was working at Fort Bragg, NC recently. Walked into a local pawn shop ("Dixie Pawn" if you are in the area) where they had probably a hundred pairs of combat boots lining the walls. They were the desert type, light tan, with Kevlar/Gortex inserts and Vibram soles.

$40, new, and after two days wearing, already extremely comfortable!

I expect them to last pretty well since they're what the Army uses.

I love my wolverine's. I don't have a problem standing in them all day long and they hold up really well. Great anti-slip and can be had for around $100

I know Dixie Pawn quite well. Most pawn shops/"Surplus" stores in Fayetteville carry combat/jungle boots. I lived in Fayetteville from 1967 until 2005. There is a lot of construction on base as they're bringing in another Special Forces group and replacing a lot of barracks in the old division area.

I have a pair of Redwing climbing boots. I can stand on a pole for hours with no complaint. Also have a pair of their 6 " workboots. they are the only boot where i can work out in the shop for hours without my knee killing me. I also use their new riding boots but havent got them broke in yet. Luckely my company buys me 2 pair a year.

These are my favorite work boots, they are branded as "Chippewa" and I think I bought them for $180. I have to buy mine myself, the company doesn't help me out. Redwings are too expensive and I think that they are overpriced for what you get.

My day job is to do tower work, so I think that I know something about standing for long periods of time with a heavy load on your feet.

Yes indeed, all true. I liked Dixie Pawn, the owners were very professional and courteous, not at all like the "Pulp Fiction" pawn shop feeling you can get at some places.
