Work In Progress....... Race Car 2 Bay

I have a problem.... I'm a pack rat. It's an inherited trait from mom. I hate throwing stuff away thinking I can find some way to use it in the future. Well NO more. I have a two car semi detached garage on my home that has been cluttered for too long. Race car parts, spares tools etc.

This will be an ongoing work in progress as I love taking on personal diy projects. I'll do as much as possible myself and hire for the rest.

The start.... Completely cluttered. Can barely move around in this pile of stuff. Lots of wasted space.

It was even worse with the race car in there. How the heck am I supposed to get anything done? It's hard enough to find the 10 mm socket with a clean garage. And this was after having an environmentally friendly recycle come through and take a full truck of stuff away.

I had enough, time to get some organization up in here. Took several hours but finally saw some of the floor up in there. I do have a space in the basement full of parts for sale, but at least it too is organized.

I figured out one big part of my problem though. My toolbox was always on the floor. And as I used tools, they got spread out on the floor causing me to leave other stuff elsewhere and more clutter. I need a work bench!

I picked my spot and decided to fabricate a workbench with my very limited wood working skills.

Several trips to home depot later, I had something acceptable to sit my toolbox on. This gave me even more working room on the floor. It felt good to be able to walk around in there again.

However, I very quickly grew tired of looking at the generator, toolbox and heaters sitting underneath the workbench though. Needed a solution.

I then made up some free hanging covers out of lightweight board from HD to cover the lower portion.. I thought about cabinets but wanted to avoid making a threshold to have to lift my generator over to store. They got old quickly. As they were a pain to get on and off with fingers and they weren't stiff enough so they flexed and didn't look very clean. I needed an upgrade there, something sturdier and easier to move around.

I almost bought a solid panel but since I would be taking these on and off frequently I decided to rear frame what I had to give it more rigidity and also to add a solution for placing and removing the panels. Some 2x2 for the sides and 2x6 for top and bottom gave me a mounting point for the handles and sturdiness for the panels which I had also already painted. This saved me from having to paint tha flat portion again as well.

I still intend to build a shelf above the equipment I have stored behind the panels to store my other tools like porter cable buffer, jig saw, circle saw, orbital buffer etc. As I intend to get rid of some of these cabinets and make others floating to clear floor space.

I am now planning the following.

1) flooring. Probably epoxy because I have jacks, jackstands and will have a lift of some sort soon. My car is also very low and already scrapes the driveway heavily driving in so don't want to add to that problem.

2) wall paint

3) better lighting

4) garage door insulation

5) ac either mini split or portable

6) TV

7) electric- this garage is on a 15a breaker and does not support a lot of things running. Needs a boost for the AC, lift, TV and other things I have planned.

8) More decluttering. I still want more space. I have lots of unused cabinet space and my other 2 bay is bigger anyways. Planning to move detailing supplies equipment over to that garage....... After I declutter that one...... Lol. It's not nearly as bad as this was though.
