I knew you did some work for TAFE. If you do not get a worker from that at least you are keeping the younger set interested in metal work and restoration.

I do hope to get back to it some time later this year, though I will have to wait for some time for the running gear as the direction of the build has changed somewhat. Finding the right running gear is going to be a large lump of $$

Bit neater this time
Lower valance required reshaping to suit the original grille lines, Centre vertical section is now original size, etc etc
Just a thought, but it might make it look a little less pug nosed if you added more vertical bars in the center instead of widening the horizontal ones. Great work by the way. Mike

As previously discussed, I plan on a V8 Diesel.
I looked at a few F250's a year ago while I as interstate (ex-ambos actually)
The track width is perfect for what the body is now (10" wider than original) & the chassis is nice narrow so when I pop the duallies on the rear, I can narrow the track a bit back there so the outside wheel doesn't stick out too much like they do normally.
The down side of all this is the cost of the base vehicle V8 Turbo Diesel with cruize, steer etc etc. Even second hand in OZ, they are BIG bucks
I have certainly considered importing something, but once after 1989 the rules change here

The South Aussie rules are so different to Victoria. Have you considered a GMC version and not the Ford version of the Ambuance ?

(I have a cousin in the states, I thought he migt be able to find me something, but prices though still ok, theey are still to much for me at the moment!
P.S. South Aussie rules for Rods are the best!, but as soon as you wander into commercial, it's not a Rod any more!! It will actualy be much simpler as a commercial anyway (I can't get any decent towing rating as a Rod!)

You could find an ex GMC Ambulance here. I know a few Tow Truck Drivers that had them and considered them good specialy the Ex Ambulance version. Finaly you have woken up to the fact as a commercial vehicle it will be easier for you to register. Why do you think it was so easy for me to build the F4 and do what I did ?

Well i missed the updates on here for a bit .
Trucks looking good Rod at this rate it might be finished when my son learns to drive
still some progress is better than none . Have you looked at the chev or dodge turbo diesel pickups as a donor ? or something like i dare i say it isuzu light truck ?

Looks like no work on the project for you over the next few weeks. I wish you a safe trip to the Salt and home again and then a safe trip to the Ballarat Swap. I'll no doubt see you there and catch up with the progress on the truck.

If i can retire in the next two years like i plan too then i will bring him over and get him started early ! Hopefully i might even learn a thing or two

I must have missed that one!Yes, a Shrinking Disc. It' just do happens we manufacture them here in Australia & even sell a few into the States & the rest of the world. We love using them & hope others do too!! (shame less plug!) I designed ours differently years ago after on I bought from O.S. failed

I'm pretty over starting & training new guys & then they just leave cause it's all too hard. 5 Years I've had 2 jobs going. My longest serving employee is 13y.o. & he's already been with me for 1 1/2 years. he works after school when he can & just loves coming into work & learning new things.
My fabricator I've just spent 6 months training, has taken leave without pay, No idea if he is returning
Just started ANOTHER young feller, 6 weeks down & may more to go before he can even pay his way
(but what can one do??)Meantime, it's another Saturday & I'm just home form work, a day off tomorrow to go catch up with some Rodding friends & maybe a cruize
If ya really want to see some of our work, I'll did up some pics, but there is already a few too many "off subject" pics etc in this thread

You've described the issue well my friend.... I've heard that so many times in the last few years....I wonder if the worlds kids and young adults are just lazy now, or if they don't like cars anymore, or that there's just too many easier ways to make a buck now....

I've just finished a 18 month stint teaching school kids one day a week.
almost a waste of time. (locally we did manage some job placements, most haven't lasted though
)We desperately need apprentices & being in the country just makes things worse
Part of the problem as I have seen it is people just don't want to put in any effort to learn a trade, or older family people think the country has nothing to offer them.
They couldn't be further from the truth!!
