Workbench Designs?

Is there a particular forum in here where people share their designs on how they built their workbench? All I've found was a you-tube video (uFpeNVO80kY) but I hoped for something better.

That's how I found this site, so far though its been very helpful for garage floor surface questions.

I have no clue how to start building my own workbench and would like to see other designs for ideas / heights, etc. Right now I'd probably just use 4x4's with 2x4 cross braces and a 3/4" plywood top . . . but, there are far more creative folks than I for sure =)

Cheers,

There are plenty of those on here

Height, I normaly see 36"
Depth and width, well that depends on the amount of space you have available and what you'll be using it for.

OVERKILL was my main design consideration! Other than that - I am quite happy with the built in stool (never have to find one - it's alwats there!). Mine has a steel top 1/2" thick - I've started to drill and tap it for 1/2-13 threads - slow going (I'm lazy) but it is very nice to have. Lastly I made built in storage for my welding rods - I never have to search for them - nice!!

Cool link to a post, big time saver, thank you!!

I'm pretty sure I know what I want to do for a design, but trying to save a few bucks is important too. Besides some big wall hanging cabinets (say, 12'W, 7'H, 18"D) I want to have about 12' of like kitchen bottom cabinets (with drawers on top and doors on bottom) and then some over-head cabinets to the sides (say, 3' each side) with peg-board between those . . . kinda hard to describe, but looking at that post above I saw some things similar. With that 36" height estimate from blaze_25 sounds like I'll have to put some 4"x4" legs under the cabinets which will be nice for when I spay out the garage.

Thanks again!

I want to have about 12' of like kitchen bottom cabinets (with drawers on top and doors on bottom)...

I've got kitchen base cabinets under my 'bench' and find that the cabinet isn't really the best use of storage space for me. They're a bit of a pain and not that easy to keep organized... they turn into a black hole for lost stuff. I'd suggest more drawers and less cabinets.

When I started my shop it was in a normal one-car garage. I built 2 four-foot benches using Simpson tie kits. Since I only had hand tools, this was my easiest solution. Now that I've got a nicer 20x24 shop I used the two existing benches to make a decent 8 foot bench against the wall.

Good point, maybe I'll go with two "all drawers" and two top drawer with doors below. I want a spot for big items like circular saws, batter chargers, cans of paint, etc. And, I'd prefer them to be out of sight . . . but then again, maybe that's what the overhead cabinets will be for . . . hmm, thanks for the tip.
