I just built a welding table that's 45" off the floor (I'm 6'2") and it feels a little high. Have yet to do a project on it though. It's about elbow height when I'm wearing boots.

I'm 6'1" and I made my benches 42" and love them.

That elbow thing is fine for a bench where you do a lot of pounding. I don't do heavy work on my benches. My welding table OTOH is a bit lower.

I wanted room underneath my workbenches to stash toolboxes, chain saw, floor jack etc.

The simpler "formula" to remember for bench height is the HEIGHT OF YOUR A$$HOLE
So, your wife (girlfriend or buddy) comes out to the garage and finds you bent over with your pants down, a pencil gripped in your a$$hole trying to scribe a line on the wall so you can measure the distance to the floor...... how did you explain THAT!? :dunno: :willy_nil

I'm 6' 6" and the workbenches in my basement shop, redeployed vintage laboratory cabinets, are about 39" high. That's the minimum I'd recommend -- they're fine, but another inch or two might be more comfortable.
