Workbench Light

My last T12 bulbs finally burnt out so it is time to replace the light fixture over my workbench in the basement with a T8. I buy my bulbs in bulk and would like to only have to by one kind. I do most of my detailed work down there, such as gun smithing and other hobbies that involve small pieces. I currently have a 4' 2 bulb fixture and was wondering if installing a 4' 4 bulb light would be overkill. I feel like i never have enough light down there.

If you think you are lacking, put in the four bulb unit. Just don't expect twice as bright. You may also look at the bulbs and go with a whiter light.

I use a two-bulb, four-foot, T8 fixture over my bench, with "Daylight" tubes. It seems to work for me, and I am definitely needing more light, the older I get.

I also have a dental light over the bench, though, for when I need a super-bright light for detailed work. This isn't the best pic of the dental light, but it shows how my lights are set up over the bench...

If your going to replace the fixture, a 2 bulb T5 HO fixture will put out a lot more light than what you had before. If you really want to go nuts, get an LED fixture & virtually never replace the bulbs again.

I use a two-bulb, four-foot, T8 fixture over my bench, with "Daylight" tubes. It seems to work for me, and I am definitely needing more light, the older I get.

Paint the walls white and you'll get more light for $20 a gal.

I used to run 8' 2 tube T12 over my bench with an 8' ceiling.
Now I use an 8' 4 tube T5 HO over the bench. Some will say that is too much light but my older eyes really appreciate it.
I use T8s everywhere else.
