I build a 10 ft long work bench in my new pole barn. Then I bought a couple 4ft. 2 bulb flourescent lights to have above it. My ceiling is 14 ft high. What do I do? Buy extra chain and hang these down from the ceiling? What height should they be? Would I be be better off to build a bracket out from the wall maybe 10 ft. high for these lights? I would like your input

One thing I have done in the past is use electrical conduit. I bent it in the shape of a "V", took one side of the "V" and attached to the wall, the other side stood out from the wall and parallel with the top of the bench, and provided a place to attach the chains for the lights.

It worked very well and I did it out of stuff I had laying around.

Did I explain that well enough that you can picture what I'm talking about?

You could hang them or mount them from the wall, it's really personal preference. The one thing is to arrange them so you aren't working in your own shadow when you bend over the bench. Personally I'd mount them lower, say at seven or eight feet.

The problem you might have hanging lights that far down is they will swing if a breeze comes in through one of the doors.
I had extra Unistrut and I made a bracket to house the wires and hold the lights as well. They are about 6' high but I am using this temp until I get the upper cabinets and put the lights under them. This hight is good for task lighting.

About 9 feet above it is a double bulb 48" T8 fixture. On the bench itself is a 24" single fixture.

I have mine mounted on the wall, about 6' above the bench. No shadows on the bench and it project a lot of light under my raised lift.

I am happy with it's location.

I will have to look at my lights, but I don't think I can mount them to the wall. They have to hang don't they?
