I have a couple sheets and several big pieces of advantech sub flooring leftover from when they floored my room upstairs in the shop. Will that work for a workbench top? I know it's solid enough but I was more worried about how it would hold up. It has writing painted/stamped on it but I couldn't care less about that. Anybody ever use that for work bench? I'm not a motor head so the workbenches are mainly for assembling random things and small woodworking projects. Very little oil and grease. Any thoughts?

If you aren't doing anything major, I don't see why it wouldn't hold up. The stuff is made to be walked on, it isn't exactly fragile.

I have advantech subflooring as my benchtop. It has held up well for me for over 5 years now. I don't do any heavy fab or anything on it...just a weekend tinkerer. Works great for me. Not easy to clean though - soaks stuff in.

Im considering making a butcherblock top, from some milled 2x4, and use the edges as the surface.
A LOT cheaper than regular butcher block.

Mine is just a H.D. cheapy kit bench with an mdf 1 inch thick top. I put polyurethane floor finish on it and it has held up well. I use an under car metal drip pan on it if I use carb cleaner or paint thinner.(when I can even see the top of it! LOL):D

Like Addrock said, Masonite. It's a smooth, hard cheap surface thats nice glued down over your Advantec. I just bought a 1/8" 4x8 sheet ae HD for 8/9 bucks.
