I’m looking for some ideas for a new workbench. What I have now is just a 3’ by 8’ bench with my sliding miter and scroll saw. I want to redo this area of my shop. I’m thinking of getting some ready made base cabinets with drawers and installing a new workbench on top of them. What I am looking for is ideas on how to intergraded the miter saw into this area, another wards I want to have it level with the top which would make it easer to work with longer pieces of material. I would love to see some pics of different ideas. I have a basic idea of how I want to build it but I’m just looking for fresh ides.

Depends on what height you want/ how you want to make it, I guess. About 6 months ago, I was looking at pre-fab steel benches, and couldn't find one for my budget at the moment (read: poor). So I built one out of 2x4's and a sheet of MDF that I had lying around. I just got a nice steel bench from Sears yesterday, though, and now I think I am going to adapt my wooden bench to fit my miter saw. I guess I'll measure the height of the cutting surface, cut a slot out of the top and recess a place under it to set the saw, then make it so I can put the piece of the top back over there when/if I need another flat bench- I don't use my miter saw quite enough to have a dedicated space for it to be out all the time.
The family handyman plans are a good starting point or idea source, for sure. I like that magazine, cheesy though it sometimes is.

Everybody that comes over always jokes as to how clean it is. They often ask if I ever do any work in there. The fact is I just can’t stand a dirty work area
When I do work on a project the tools are usually all over the place, but once complete everything goes back to the proper place. I’m not **** but practice good work ethic. It sure is nice to find what tool you need right awaytrovato

I too constantly hear the "your garage is too neat. You obviously never do any real work in there" BS. Wouldn't you rather work in a clean space rather than a dump?
