I know we have a ton of posts on the Garage Journal covering work benches, their construction, and all of the theories behind their design. However, a buddy of mine over ...

That guy is pretty well set up.

And I like the red, yellow and three neutrals color scheme. It makes the place look uncluttered, even though it's jam-packed with stuff.

But I have to say, those unsecured hooks in the pegboard would drive me nuts. At least when I used them, it seemed like every time I'd take a tool down the hook would come with it. But maybe I'm a ham-fisted tool grabber.

I'm a big fan of the Stay-Put brand:

What - no metal lathe or mill? That's not a shop :)
Actually, for all the different activities he has going - electrical\electronics, mechanical, wood, and some stuff I don't know what the heck it was, it's well organized and clean. Really nice shop and very well appointed.

Nice shop and he's probably got enough electronic equipment to phone home to ET's planet. I like his layout and all the outlets he's got, but I personally don't like having that much stuff up on pegboards. Too much organized clutter for my likes.
...although...I guess when you have THAT much stuff, it's gotta go somewhere. Pretty amazing organization when you think about it.

I like that 4.5"(?) pressure gauge he has mounted. I use those at work & are great. Marsh & Ashcroft along with many others make them.

I'm getting angry just thinking about that, want to grab a broom real quick the hook holding it 8 feet in the air pops out, very angry. I got some of those plastic clips to hold the pegs in but they pop occasionally. I will be looking up that Stay-Put brand, they look very nice.

I'm torn on this. I like the fact that it's organized, yet it's all over the place. It seems like the mechanics tools are in several places. Now maybe these are for different purposes (like having some near the lathe), but it still seems odd. It's almost like pegboard overkill. I echo the lack of retainers on the peg hooks. I have those little plastic ones and they work well. Couldn't do without them.

That said, it's obviously very clean and if he knows what is where, more power to him.

Anyone else notice the old civil defense radiation detector?

Hell yes!!!!! By the way I am a little disturbed with the clean mess atmosphere but I do not do much electronics so I guess there is a reason for such an organisation, I like very much the use of recycled items.

<----is a little ocd when it comes to shops/work benches....and that is nice! I could hang out there and not feel the need to organize or clean up. I agree though that having the mechanics tools in a couple different places is weird.

He must spend all his time dusting!

I envisioned tools and other flotsam raining down on me the first time I started pounding on something on the bench...

I think it is very nice. I did that in the beginning, but I found it to cluttered to look at. My wife was always telling me to clean the garage.
So I took it all down, cleaned the peg board etc. I have one of those Monster Kobalt rolling tool crib with the radio and fridge now.. Now the walls are un cluttered and the counter tops are clean.
Before "I" knew where everything was, now it is in a drawer or cabinet..
Oh yea, those peg board hooks are a pain, I dont miss them.. cheers:bounce:

It looks like the link to Mike Louthan's Flicker account is no longer active. Too bad, I really enjoyed getting lost in these shop photos...
