question, who does? and how do you do it??

got a offer for a part time dockworker, decent money,an hr start time after my full time job, shift starts at 1am,full time job off at midnight,so not a long lag time, and p/t job 5 miles down the road from full time job.same basic shift,mon-friday.

part time has benefits they treat p/t like full time,401k,and training and such. they want to keep you and there is room for advancement.plus full time job, the industry for which it is in is in a slow down, never seen it this slow.they have laid off 4 people already, possibly 2 more by the end of this month.

you just do it a day at a time and do the best you can. gotta take advantage of extra income when you can...plus it's good to diversify...esp in a slow economy. hit it hard when you can....and less when you need a break and recharge...then hit it hard again! ;)

I do it.

My full-time job has "regular" hours, 8:30-5 (or 9-5:30) and then I work nights and weekends averaging about 24 hours a week. The part-time job starts about a half hour to an hour after I punch out, so I had to figure the best route to work, from work. I usually eat my dinner at my desk, fifteen minutes before I leave.

Also, I can write that travel between jobs off on my taxes. It isn't much, but it's something.

So are you worried that your full time job might go away? In your second paragraph it seems the company is laying off 4 already with 2 more coming. If so it makes good sense to look out for yourself and set up the second job.

How many hours is the dockworker job? You really need to watch that you get enough sleep so you do nto get run down and possibly bad health. I will say that your life will be essentially sleep, work, eat. But it is a great way to save extra money, not just from the additional income but also you won't have time to spend it!

This is true for me, for sure.

Right after I graduated high school, I worked 5 days at 1 place, then on the weekends I worked at another. I was doing 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.

After 2 months, I headed off to college. Bought myself a used car and paid for my first year of college.

Its tough, at times I felt like all I did was eat, sleep, and work but in the end the payoff was nice and felt good that I could achieve something.

Keep your head up and dont worry what anybody says.

I just stopped doing it after 7 years straight. I'm an mechanical design engineer by day, and worked as a machine mechanic/machinist by night. I started it when my oldest of 3 started college. The youngest is completing his 1st year at college, but I paid the house off early, so when job #2 ended the end of January, I didn't look around. Don't need it anymore.

You just do it. I'd leave the house at 7:00am, and get back home at 11:30pm 4 days a week. I'd drive about 1/2 hour from #1 to #2. I would not work Friday night. That's Momma's night. Saturdays, I'd work job #2 only 8-5.

No debt for me or my kids was my motivation.

i dont have 2 jobs, but it's not uncommon to put in 70-80 hrs per week. makes for a long *** week. you just do it and hopefully along the way you get your money in order so that you dont HAVE to do it. my long hours is what made it possible for me to be a stay at home dad for 2 years after my son was born. i still do the long days but i know that if i quit/got hurt/ got fired i got some $$$ in the bank and

I too have a second job but it's more for fun so that I can have access to the plasma cutter, lathe, welder and get the wholesale discount on materials but then its only 4 hours a week.

I run a body shop at night, wishing I could find something else that was just as profitable that I could actually have some spare time for me but it isn't happening anytime soon!!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Whatever overtime they had I worked. I missed out on a lot of things. I was working two jobs 82 hours a week. I did this for 5 years. Put a lot of strain on my marrige but I did it all for her and she knows that. Now I work my 40 and I'm done. Once in a while I will work 6 hours on a Saturday but that's dew and far anymore. I rather be poor and spend rime with my wife then have money and never be around. But it really helped us out, it sucked but I did what I had to do.

I worked nights and weekends for years after our first child was born. I did it because my wife stopped working at that's what it took to pay the bills. As a result I do not have the close relationship with my oldest that I have with the younger two because I was just never around. I am now down to a tolerable 50-60 hours per week. If you have to do it because you are worried about your security at your present job then you gotta do what you gotta do.

I've never heard of anyone lying on their death bed saying "Geez, I wish I worked more".

I used to work 2 jobs plus cut grass for a 8 building apt complex (4hrs a week). My 2nd job was delivering newspapers in the morning (about 2:30 to 4:30) before my full time job.I did this for 15yrs, my paper route money help me buy a house and pay the mortgage.I did this through my late teens till about 33, once gas hit $2.00(2002) I quit was not worth it no more, some weekends I'm sure I was hammered delivering papers......

I went to Tech School and in my senior year I worked a full time second shift job. After I got out of school I worked first shift and took the over time offered. I worked 16 hour days, 4am until 8pm 13 days on one day off for two years. Tough but doable.

I work one job. Up at 4 am, and usually home around 7 pm. I don't have time for a second job.
Advantage is, it is all mine. I own the business, and probably could not work for anyone else.

Always try to improve yourself and take advantage of what the company can offer you as far as training goes.
