Hi All,

I was in the shop and fixing a broken CD player & I opened it and

FOUND THIS BAD BOY……

Bob

PS:
After taking a good look around the shop (in all the corners and beams) I found that I had a bunch more and that it appears that I could qualify as a breeder…..

Between my boots & HomeDefense spray it might be widow free….If I can get up the nerve to go back in and check

Holy ****!!!

I can take most bugs, but damn I hate spiders. I hate when I don't see a web and walk thru it and it gets on me, especially on my face.

Ewwww

That speck of red would make me think its dangerous and I would be trying to stab that sob with a screwdriver.

Never been bothered by a BW. I generally know where they like to be and that's usually not a place that I frequent. Under potted plants, in the wood pile and just about anywhere that is fairly dark, not too hot and not too moist. But not real far inside something either. They like to get out and wander after dark. They eat scorpions for those of you in the desert.

Count on them.

There's always a few black widows in the dark corners of my garage. They're very timid and very fast. Bug spray usually does the trick, at least for a while.

Hate seeing a single stranded web between bushes and when I go to remove it and it's stronger than a steel beam. Know there's a black widow somewhere.

We have a few dozen around the yard which I ignore. Appears to be one in the garage someplace judging by the damn web I got stuck to my arm the other day. They have to be the stickiest webs I've ever encountered.

Picked up a box in my garage a while back and got bit by one right on the fingertip. He must have got me pretty good cause it drew blood when I squeezed my finger, Google what the effects were going to be and was expecting stomach or muscle cramping but there was absolutely no effect whatsoever. Don't worry much about them anymore.

Just killed one the other night with a little shot of brake cleaner. I find them about once every three or four months. I've cleaned out the garage considerably though so there's a lot fewer places for them to hide.

Damn, I'd probably squeal like a school girl, then come to my senses and let it go outside.

That bad boy only bothered me because I had been working with my hands inside the CD player for a while......

Spiders, in general, don't bother me. We even have a Tarantula Festival here every year. But on the other hand Tarantula Hawks get my attention.

Spiders never bothered me... we had them in the house where I grew up, so they were never a big deal. Not that I don't give them their due respect (my ex lost a chunk of leg to a brown recluse - THOSE are nasty little so-and-so's - their bite causes your flesh to attack itself and die, and then spreads like gangrene) but for some reason I don't f*** with them and they don't f*** with me. Maybe it's because of my past...

That one's kinda cute. Ex boyfriend from my wild and wooly days had a pet tarantula - they look big and mean and hairy and scary, but they're actually gentle as a kitten - and almost as affectionate. His would play this game - come up to your hand and start rubbing your finger with it's... um... I guess it's a foot. Anyway, if you put your finger on top of its foot, it would put its foot on top of your finger. It'd do that for a while, then nuzzle your hand, meaning it wanted to climb up on your shoulder.

THAT would make people flat freak out. :rocker:

See the orange hour-glass on the spider.............

That's a black widow.....
Yours definitely looks like a black widow but there are also brown widows (which aren't dangerous). We have TONS of brown widows in my area and luckily few black widows.

Black body w/ red markings = black widow
Brown body w/ orange markings = brown widow

Did you ever see the original Crocodile Dundee movie ? ( You call THAT a knife.... ) Agreed Black Widows are kinda disconcerting and if you trip over a large one you might sprain an ankle or something ( joke !) ( we have the "same" spider here called a "Redback") but google "Funnel Web Spider" which are just plain scary in my book...
but right back atya are those Brown Recluse or whatever you guys have in the USA- now THEY would scare the heck outa me more than anything we have over here !! For the record I have so many redbacks/black widows in my shed it is not funny- but they are great at keeping other insects down.

In Montana I see about 1 a year. In Casper I think they are preparing for a cold winter because I have seen more this year than ever before.
