Working with metal conduit

Hi guys,

I've done a ton of wiring with schedule 40 cpvc and also with flexible conduit but never with the solid conduit.

Just in the planning phase right now and I have a question. If I mount all of my ceiling lights first. Then come back later and run the conduit from light to light, is there enough slop in the fittings to be able to fit the conduit in place without loosening the mounting for the lights? I assume so but figured I'd ask because there is nothing worse then not thinking about these things and finding out you created more work for yourself!

EMT? not rigid conduit. Rigid is not used much any more.

No, I don't think so, not if you properly cut and fit the conduit, and possibly not even if you cut it short.

Assuming you mean 1/2" EMT? I have done so so it can be done...but the situation I had was conducive to this. Some might not be. Also, the thicker EMT gets pretty stiff so you might not be able to flex it enough? There are different fittings that go between the j-box and the conduit and the set screw ones seemed to be a bit easier for this than the lock nut type. If you have short pieces of EMT between lights it's gonna be hard/impossible because there isn't enough flex/slop. If you have a bends it might make it easier in some cases but maybe much harder? The real pain is undoing the wire, and then fishing it back though.

I'd do it all in one step if you can and save yourself the headache if you can.

Yes, 1/2" EMT. Glad I asked. I'll plan to fit the conduit as I install the lights. Sounds like its going to be a 2 man job.
