House is done and , if all goes well, we should be doing the closing on Friday... First thing on the list is to get the build permits to do the workshop... wohooo!!

Here you can see where the corner of the shop will be... towards the back corner... that is me on the marker.

And from that point looking back at the house.

I did extend the garage as much as the builder allowed (4')... so even here it should be comfortable for placing a few things... But I want my workshop!!

Two months with the new house... as mentioned, not moving here for a few years... so we have time to setup correctly.

I did move a few things to make space in our current house... Installed the water filter, security lights and cameras, etc. Next we will be looking at some cabinets for the garage in the house.

And then to start getting final quotes on the workshop. I want to see what the difference is for going to a full metal building versus a concrete block walls construction...

For the garage in the house, I had an old heavy duty shelf... painted it charcoal grey, installed new 3/4"x17-1/2"x72" panel inserts and bought matching storage containers (need to get three more containers)...

This is not the final location. I will move it to the wall on the other side of the door. Where it is now is where I want to place the tools cabinet. I also want the tools cabinet for the house garage to be in a similar charcoal grey.

Besides some wall boards for hanging stuff and some retractable air and power reels... I do not plan to do much more on the garage in the house... Wife is really looking forward to be able to park her car inside for the first time, lol... So I can't plan to do much work in there...

Had not thought of that... makes sense. I was trying to, as much as I could within the limited lot, not have the workshop be the whole back view from the house... but 2'-3' is not going to make a difference and will allow a 10'-11' space on that side.

I would make it about 12' off the fence line so you can add a lean to roof to park the RV under. It will thank you.

If its in the budget I would try to make the shop climate controlled. It gets HOT in the summer around here. I insulated my 30x40 and it slows the rate that it heats up, but it still gets heat soaked. Roll up doors make AC more difficult unless you buy the right ones to start with.

Looking good though! Love the Porsche.

It will have A/C If not, I fear it would be worst than a sauna in there. But you bring a good point on the doors that I had not thought about... if I have it climate controlled (which is the plan), then I have the wrong doors... Maybe stick with the normal doors (but the ones with insulation)... save some money from going roll up, and just have the rails go as high as they can make them and use side mounted motors.

On the lean roof... I need to confirm what the easement on that side is... if I can accommodate it, I will...I had that in one of my plans before reality set in... I do not want to get rid of more trees behind the house. We have spent a couple of weekends in the house and loved the sound of the wind through the trees and the breeze we get from them... But thank you for the reminder... completely forgot when I asked for the quote . Let me check what the paperwork says about easements and see if it can fit in there without going into the trees.

Here are a few photos... I am waiting for the house in the back to be done so that I can get the fence in place and plant some Pagodas. The pagodas grow tall and attract butterflies and double as a privacy natural fence... a friend has them in their property and we like how they look for a natural barrier.

I really should have continued to look for a place with at least an acre... but oh well...

Got started... need to decide if this is the final dimension before putting a deposit down.

I have been playing with where exactly to place the building...

And got to install the attic ladder, trim... etc. in the garage. Did the texture on the panel... just need to paint it to finish that project.

Did some wall slot panels and tried to organize things a little bit...

Had those posters hanging in my office at work and decided to move them to the garage... working from home so better to enjoy them in the house. I will see them more often there

And just to feel like I did anything other than working on the house... installed a new carburetor, fuel lines... The battery it had had gone dead and bad over a year (bike has been sitting 7 years without being used), but I had a lithium battery that was supposed to be for another project, so went ahead and installed it in this X1 pocket sport bike just for the hell of it... saved me from having to buy another battery... Baby is back alive!!

But figured that I would share something as I wait for some quotes...

Anyway.. a friend has had this cheap vise in the side of his driveway for several years... All this time it has been exposed to the environment... Well, I had it, could not leave it outside rusting away.

So I took it inside his garage, took it apart, removed all the rust and gave it a coat of hammered green Rust Oleum paint.

Wish I had taken before photos... I had already cleaned most of the rust when I took these...

Again, cheap vise, but I just could not let it rust away...





As you can see, I have been painting all my tools the same color... that is a plasma cutter that you see in the background... yup, took it apart an painted it to match as well.



Almost done. Need to clean some of the bolts to finish the assembly...



Oh... and took the interior out of the VW to start working on the headliner install... Like I said, I have more important things to do but I get soooooo easily distracted...

This is done... Painted all the larger surfaces green, painted the clamps wrinkle black (it was was I had available)replaced all the hardware with stainless steel, greased the internals... cleaned all the rust on the handles with a small air tool with 2" medium grade fiber surface conditioning discs... Working smoothly.

Just some filler update... Build of the workshop has been moved to next year in August.

In the meantime, I did some shuffling of the projects to make space to move a friend's rail buggy to help him finish it.

Moved the '81 project to Ocala...

That cleared some space...

And Rail Buggy now here... I need to remove the engine and transmission to replace the big paper seals in the transmission... Not looking forward to that, but seems like my friend did not install the correct amount of gaskets in there... He is ill and the plan is to finish the rail, sell it, and use the funds to pay for his care.

All this so that can make space for working on another project in our existing house... These are projects I had to store at friend's garages since I did not have the space at home... I so need that workshop...

In the mean time I have been working on small projects in the existing garage... this justified getting a small workbench...

Built a shed to move all the stuff for taking care of the lawn there... this was a fun project as it was just my wife and me doing the build without any kit nor plans...





Will install the vinyl/rubber floor this coming weekend and call this one done!



Next year we should finally be able to build the workshop... but it keeps shrinking. Down to 30'x30'

Sorry for taking so long to reply... had not seen your post. I have not gotten a quote. Was waiting to have the funds again... funny how stuff gets in the way.

Bought a used milling machine and a metal lathe a few months ago. Had to buy a 2-Ton gantry crane as well... Here I am swapping out pallets... needed a smaller footprint... Milling machine will remain on a pallet so that I can move it around easily with the pallet jack. Once the shop is built, I can move all the cars over to the shop and leave the single garage side just for the lathe and milling machine. That is the plan at least...




Finally got the VFD to power the milling machine. I do not have 3-phase at home... so needed the VFD to go from 1-phase 220 to 3-phase. And also took the time to install a powered drawbar... Replaced all the lubricating/oil lines, and did a lot of cleaning (but still have a lot more to do)...

Moved the VFD again since I needed the other area for the air setup for the powered drawbar... Still a temporary location... Need to make a remove control setup so I can place the VFD out of harm/debris way...

The stove was a gift from a friend... to use it for powder coating...

@wachuko Thanks for posting the photos. Had to do a search to find the corners you used. Cast concrete looks way better than steel brackets and they won't need to be replaced every 5 years (in Florida). I also like the price...

The lights, yes!! New house and I have not touched that yet. I want enough LED lights to get every corner of the garage out of the darkness...

I also want to get one of those garage openers that mount on the side of the door, a LiftMaster jackshaft garage door opener, to eliminate the one in the ceiling. Only for the single garage door... And also see if I can raise the rails as well, to get them closer to the ceiling. Need as much height as I can get.

The milling machine final place will be against the wall, next to the air compressor, and now with the power drawbar, it is a tight fit with the garage door rails where they are...

Yes. I got mine from Lowes, but they have them at almost every hardware store.

I still need to finish the recent ones.. I need to install the 2x6 that go on top... to create the border and a sitting area... like I did with the other ones.

They do when you set it up... A lot of the folks on YouTube do that with their links...

I remember when I was setting up my RV, I was documenting everything with links to what I was using and someone in the forum recommended I do that to get some additional revenue... I never followed thru on that... It was not my intention to make money from sharing what I was doing.

Anyway, sorry for the long answer .

On another topic. My brother got this from another friend... some two years ago. And he never used it, it just sat in his shed. He knew I needed one for the new house and gave it to me. Picked it up last week and now installed. Oil changed, air/intake filter change, regulator, and new valves (drain, and main) installed.

Redoing the drain valve. Got a brass elbow and ****** to replace the galvanized units I used initially... and yes, stupid me, did not think of placing the valve on the other end of the ****** to make it easier to drain from the side.... Will be correcting that this weekend.





We are still a few years away from moving to this house... I sure hope everything workshop-related is done by then. Right now, for some reason or another, the workshop gets pushed out... I hope this year is when we finally get to build it.

Yes, only for a few years. Then we sell the house in Orlando and move permanently to Ocala. All geared towards retirement. Getting all the tooling and machines I will need to keep busy during retirement...since I will not be able to buy anything like this after we retire. All this just for fun, not planning to make any money out of this... keeping the mind and body busy and all that...

Mr. Diaz,

Thank you for your interest in our buildings. 12' walls is the max we can do within our engineering so that's what I've priced below.

The price for the 30'x30'x12' Gable as described (built in Marion County) is $45,800 which includes the concrete monolithic slab, set up, labor, building permit, and tax. That price also includes 12'-2x6 walls, Hardie Board fiber cement siding (lap, stucco, or vertical) or vinyl siding, two 10'x10' steel overhead doors, one 36" entry door, 30 year architectural shingles and one 3x3 thermal pane window. Our buildings are engineered to the latest Florida Building Code as well.

Just to let you know, we are currently running at least 10 months out with our current backlog.

Because I would prefer cinder blocks, I asked if they would built it that way... they are not setup to do so... Also asked about different thickness of concrete slab as I want a minimum of 5" for the slab... Here is their follow up response to a few questions:

Because we pre-build the walls ahead of time we only build out of wood frame.

Our slab has footings around the perimeter that are 12" wide x20" deep and then it angles into 4" in the center. We can pour it 5-6” thick though and you would just pay for the additional yardage of concrete used.

We offer the Hardie stucco siding which is a pretty good match to most stucco homes. Because we don't use subcontractors we don't install the electric but that can be done by a licensed electrician after we get a final inspection on the building.

The next step would be for us to set up a time for me to come out and check your location. I would check the access and determine how much fill might be needed which is based on how level your location is.

Paper work done... 12'x30'x30' with 5" concrete slab and stem wall... Oh, and 2 - 10'x10' doors, 1 - 36" side door, 1 - 3'x3' window... 57K As soon as I give them the deposit they can place me on the waiting list...

What hiked the price was the stem wall. it was either grading up to level or building a stem wall... since the building is close to the house, I did not wanted a mountain of dirt right next to the lanai...

Front of the building will be 2' above ground... I will need to figure out how to make a ramp to be able to get in and out... The ramp is not part of the price... I will need to either do that myself or contract someone to do it...

My shop is also 30' x 30' but is only 8' tall and is almost full with woodworking tools, as well as metalworking stuff plus a area for my wife to repaint furniture.
