Workshop build in Ireland

thanks for the comments lads, must get some updated pics up over the weekend as it looks a bit different now. starting to get filled up.

kippieland: yea we have a lot of rain over here so the concrete is a must better option long term i think. id love to have built it like on old american barn but planning laws wont allow that style of roof in this country(not sure what its called, its typical of most old style barn. has a double pitch???)
if i had of had the option i would have loved to have built something like the photo i put in there, would remind me of the garage in days of thunder.....
i do intend cladding the outside of the workshop in shiplap timber and putting a cupola on the roof and doing it like a barn as much as possible.

installed my two post lift aswell with some help form a mate and da, never installed one of these before so was a learning experience but it turned out well.
had to use my own van to test it dough so it was a kind of fingers and toes crossed moment!!!! luckily it was fine and am actually suprised how strong it was. (2 post lift was a chinese lift in comparassion to the rotary scissors lift)

I didn't have such a large building so I went with the MaxJax lift.

Thats funny they won't allow it...curious. In the US, the pole building is more popular...though on this site, I have seen a lot of brick shops in the Eastern parts (I live in the West). My shop is a pole building, the frame looks just like yours did, but with wood instead of metal/steel. We then add cross boards and then slap metal siding on....then its done. Is wood expensive there?

My family has a farm with a small barn like the one in your pic. I'm not sure what the style is called, but it built with timber framing instead of poles in the ground. Very traditional...actually when I drive across the state, I see old barns like that in your picture falling down from age....thats the farming way!

Odd question and very off topic....Favorite Football team? I mean real football not NFL. Love me some football!

Nice Shop and nice car, i have thing for oldtimers from 70-80ties.
Building metods are funny to observe on this forum, in the US it is very light and thin
build, africa/trinidad is with lots of cement and iron. just inside Europe there are big differences, although dobbel brick walls and lots insulation is very common in the northern parts.
Keep up the nice work..

kippieland: i actually dont follow football/soccer at all. have no interest in it, im into rallying and quad racing.
timber frame structures are allowed in ireland and pretty common method of construction on modern housing estates but the double pitch roof like on old american barns is not allowed.
i just like concrete as i think its a lifetime job and not much maintenance.

Cool man. Just thought I would ask about the football.....not real popular here in this country. I am also into motorsports, mainly motocross....but this is where my US side comes out....American Motocross...not the Motocross GP's (hard to find any info on them.) Of course, world rally is the best..U.S. can't touch it.

hey teamddr, my floor paint is just a good quality floor paint, it dulux with a primer and a top coat but to be honest if i was to do it again a wouldnt paint it. the floors destroyed allready. the welder and grinder wrecks it. if i was to go again a would probably just seal the concrete.

heres a few updated pictures from during last summer. i was trying to get things tidied up outside, getting in lawns and kerbing, also threw in a few pictures of a load of turf for the lads who were talking about it earlier in the post.

over the winter i started to loft one end of the workshop. i plan on having a cleanroom on the left under the loft for painting. on the right i plan on having a dirty room for sanding/priming and filler work.
also a picture on my focus on the lift for a service.

i got a floor down on the loft and started to build a swing lift for lifting stuff up onto the loft.
i made it out of an old lucas swing lift which im putting a lodar radio controller remote on so i can work from upstairs or downstairs.
incase ye are wondering who that safety conscious person is doing the bit of welding, thats my dad and he loves anything that he can make a bit dangerous
also i apologise about the state of the shed but there was a lot of things going on when these photos were being taken and i did tidy up afterwards.
