What are all of the round pieces for?

What size is the garage going to be? It looks like it is not going to be square. Correct?

hey the round pieces are just me adding some extra feet to the slab to make sure it dont move :) they ended up with crushed rock up to the top of them which you can check out in the next pic's :)

it's going to be 63sq meters (680sq feet) and your right it wont be sqaure, its trapezoid to fit the space :)

plus it's attached to the back of an existing garage the same size just oriented differently :)

great guess :) if the didn't end up with crush rock to there tops the would have been perfect for that, they are 50mm deep and with a 100mm slab they would hold the mesh perfectly in the middle :)

Hey all, well to start small update, I have removed the window at the back of the existing garage and cut away the bottom brick section to create the doorway for the workshop. Lucky for me when they built the garage the put in a large steel lintel and the opening is 1.2mtrs wide so plenty of room to get bikes in and out. cheers Andy

Hi all, Well we finished the concrete pour yesterday and it came up Nice! There are some jobs that it is so worth paying a professional to do and screeting is one them. Had 4 of my neighbours come over and barrow so we were able to unload 8 cubic meters of concrete in 1hour!
anyhow will take the formwork off next Weekend and give the whole area a good clean up so here's some pic's of how it all looks.

Slab looks great. I'm still curious about the white discs. Can you explain their purpose again? Thanks

Haha, you wouldn't believe how many times people have asked me about those  Think of them like stumps of a timber (lumber) joisted house, supports the main bearers, and stops the floor from sliding (just me doing something different)

This is pretty cool. I plan on something similar next year with my garage. Expand out the back, put in a 6' roll-up door to the workshop I wish to build. Very nice.

As a side project to this I also have a bit of concrete work to do around the back door area of the house, because I get a new workshop the Wife gets a new deck covering the entire area between the house and the workshop, so because I have planned drainage under the deck, it has to be concreted under it, lucky for me most of the area has already been done! anyhow here are a couple of pics including the small old deck I had to remove before and after.

It's very nice to see how you frame walls on the ground an then quickly they are up. Very efficient and nice result.

Here in Portugal we use more concrete and masonary bulding. First outer walls, then insulation then inside wall then finish from the outside, from the inside you must open way for the wall infraestructures, install the infraestructures and finally finish inside wall. Off course also the paint.

Thas what is great on Garaje Journal. Too see diferent ways to the same pourpose.

Absolutely, It's amazing the amount of different building materials. It's funny when you grow up with a certain building material, that when you see a new one from a different country it looks so very foreign

Just a comment, but it seems to me you might want a roof on before insulating the walls. You will risk the insulation getting wet doing the walls before the roof, but perhaps you are going to put a tarp over them if it rains.

Rain flows from the bottom up in Australia. The floor will protect the insulation.:D
