Ok, so I'm going to build a pole building to use as a workshop and need a little help.

The building will be fully insulated. I'm planning on having 1 to 2 inches of spray foam then put fiberglass insulation from there. Should the roof be fully vented as with normal fiberglass insulation?

As I would like to heat and cool at least part of the building, what's the best option for large doors. I need 1 or 2 10x10 doors to allow me to bring in a car and the mill I'm hoping to purchase as soon as I have some place to put it. I won't need to open the large doors often as the cars that are going in the building are long term projects. My concern heat loss and air infiltration.

Thanks,
Zeke

Hi, Zeke and good name.

I got some information from an insulation company today. They do not recommend venting the roof with the spray foam. So, non-vented it is.

I put 2 10x10 overhead doors in my pole barn shop. I went with steel commercial doors that had a R-12 rating and no windows. They have have steel on both sides with foam in between and are pretty stout. Along with the usual rubber flap seal on the outside I put two strips of foam bead gaskets like used in man doors on all three sides where the door rest up against the framing. Although a little pricey (about $1,200 ea) the doors are sealed well and insulate against the cold winters here in upstate New York.

Spend decent money on insulated doors, they will be the biggest heat loss. Once I close my doors, I slide small wedges in behind the latches to close up the airgap on the doors and get old man Ohio winter out.
