I had my shop stool reupholstered yesterday. The guy said he thinks it was mfg. in the late 40's by Comfort Lines, Chicago Ill. The top spins around real easy like the soda fountain stools. I've looked for years for another like it and haven't had any luck. It has steel springs rather than foam rubber for cush. :) Wondered what everyone else is sitting on?

i'm usually sitting on the floor if i do sit down.

ive never been comfortable sitting in/on a chair while i'm working. about the only "work" i do sitting down is at my reloading press.

Uh, I have a folding metal chair in the garage! Only used when at the table, otherwise it's either my rear on the floor, or on a short, cheap stool (about 20 inches) from HF.

All I really do is stuff to my bikes anyways.

Oh geez do I need a new stool for the garage. I've got this three-legged thing my folks gave me for Christmas or something several years ago. I'm pretty much convinced merely give this stool a dirty look will cause it to fall over.

I've been tempted several times to buy an old barber chair off of CL for the garage. Might not be the best for working at the bench but couldn't ask for a better place to have a drink and a cigar and keep an eye on the neighborhood.

Where I work, they just did a library rebuild. Naturally, anytime there is a project, I go dumpster diving. I found this in the dumpster...

I have one that I grabbed out of the trash:

I use it a lot more as a step ladder than a seat.

I've thought about getting a raised chair with arms and a back, but I'm surprised at how rarely I have an impulse to sit when I'm working in the garage. I would guess that there are some types of work (like soldering or small-parts-type assembly) where I'd use a chair -- but I keep putting off getting a replacement for the old stool.

I decided to order one of these as I also need a step stool frequently. It'll do double duty if someone comes over to visit my "shop" while I'm working :)

Mine's "old school". Seriously, my high school was throwing a bunch of them out and I grabbed one. I can't say for sure that it is one of the ones I fell asleep on in science class but it might be.

The red seat covering is from an MGA that I restored 25 years ago. I think it's now time to restore the stool.

Those are nice! Probably made in the U.S.A. Most everything today is thin metal and made in China

The wife bought me one of those craftsman stools like metioned above.

I also have a couple of the stools, steel frame round wood seat, usually found in high schools. If I want something more comfortable, like, taking it easy, I grab one of my Turbo coupe seats. They came out of a T-Bird turbo coupe and I made some frames for them. The frames allow them to recline back.
