It's not technically a garage. Can I even show it here?

We moved into a new house about a year ago. Used to have a tiny yard at our old place and my wife always wanted a pool. So, we found this house with a great backyard. We finished the pool project last fall (started it right away), and we poured a slab at the same time to build a shed-workshop-cave-poolhouse.

Half will be a changing room for pool guests, the other half was to be a storage shed, but it's turning into a workshop (so I need to build another shed to have a shed.)

Slab to the right.

Wall framing. (Pool equipment to the right, on its own slab.)

Rafters instead of trusses, for maximum storage.

I'm putting in a DRICore floor on the workshop side. Might do the same on the poolhouse side.

Insulated! (It's like a soundproof booth.)

Siding on. Below the siding will be stone, to match the house, and the walls around the pool perimeter.

Painted! Well, the gray, anyway. Still need to do the trim.

I put down underlayment, and then I'm going with black Armstrong Vinyl Composition tiles. I love the look of these.

Thanks, all.

Need to add to the tool collection, though. I need a woodworking vise for the bench, a bandsaw and a grinder. I always keep my eyes peeled on Craigslist for good vintage stuff.

Gonna do a stone walkway between the building and the pool concrete, maybe toss some shrubbery or some such in there.

But this is Minnesota, so all the outside/landscape upgrades must wait until spring. Right now the kids have the run of the place with the ice rink that we put in on a flat part of the lawn.

Added a Rikon bandsaw. Just unboxed it this morning; haven't even set it up yet.

Wasn't my first choice. (read on.)

Actually bought an old ('40s?) Craftsman off eBay (pic below; with Luuna the workshop dog), but the thing was damaged in shipping. It was shipped in one box, and included the motor/table in the same box. The awkwardness of the giant, unbalanced box made for a pretty rough ride, and when I got it, it was dented, and some of the smaller parts were mincemeat. The seller was VERY understanding, and refunded everything after I shipped it back (in two boxes), and it all worked out. (For me, anyway. I'm sure he wasn't too happy.)

Lessons learned (besides how to pack a bandsaw for shipping)
1) if you're keen on outfitting your shop with vintage stuff, keep it simple (a drill press is simple; bandsaw? hmmm.... in my short time with it, I found that I'd probably have to make any parts that break.)
2) Stick with local for the heavy stuff. Shipping is expensive and dicey.

Anyway, I've heard great reviews of the Rikon. Can't wait to cut some stuff up!

Added a Makita 10" miter saw. Kept it basic, as it's a small shop. I didn't have room for a dedicated miter-saw station, so I modified the bench to accommodate a "temporary" one.

I used Kreg track on the top to hold down the saw, and I added track on the fascia of the bench to accommodate some homemade adjustable saw supports for longer stock. The supports bolt in with the red knobs. A couple of removable 3/4" dowels act as stops if I need to make multiple cuts of the same length. (I think I saw a pic on Pinterest or some such, and just made a pair to accommodate my saw and bench.)

So, I can easily move the saw and the supports to/from the bench as needed.

Things are coming together.

What's the size of the shed?
Building is 14 x 16; each half is 14 x 8, more or less. Workshop size has a few extra square feet (where the drill press and bandsaw sit).

Plenty of room for most projects, though. If I ever need to do big stuff, plywood, etc..., I can just push the table saw out the door.

Added a station for a spindle sander and a bench grinder. (I've pretty much filled all the wall space, so I'm done.)

I'll put actual legs (or maybe locking casters) on the spindle sander cabinet (and a proper top, and a shelf, and a door, etc...), but I wanted to get it in place, dangit!
