I have 74 inches of wall space to work with and I would like to put some floor cabinets against the wall with a worktop. I really like these Newage Pro cabinets but Newage doesn't make a worktop that is compatible. Both of these cabinets together are 70 inches and would fit the space perfectly but they don't offer a 70 inch worktop. What would you guys do in this situation?

I would either:

1. Go to Menards and buy an 8' piece of butcherblock countertop, OR

2. Edge glue enough 2x4's (or 2x6 or 2x8 or etc...) to make your work surface.

If you really want it strong enough to drive a bulldozer over face glue the 2 by's, giving you a 3 1/2" thick surface..

My metal lathe is sitting on a bench whose top is three 2x10's (about 28" wide total). That thing is about indestructible.

I use sold core home center doors edge banded with red oak. Definitely a lot to be desired when it comes to flatness....flat is tough to achieve less one has deep pockets.

My bench top is 3/4" MDF two layers glued to make 1.5" thick. Edged with oak all around and a short backsplash. Finished with something oil impervious. It's held up real well for a few years now.

I have 2 of the New Age cabinets underneath a Huskey workbench. Works pretty well for me and is strong and stable.

I have 40ft of workbench in my shop and this is how I did the entire top. Base is 2x2 steel tube with some angle, concrete anchored to the floor. When a tornado comes that bench will be the only thing left standing for miles :D
