[There hasn't been any info on this topic since '13 so I'll start a new one.]

What do y'all wear while seriously working and why?

Boots: I have two pairs of steel-toe Wolverines. The waterproof pull-on's have a plastic sock so you can actually stand in a few inches of water. The non-waterproof lace up pair I use climbing ladders, on roofs, etc. I buy Wolverines because they are available at Academy here in Huntsville TX.

Britches: I wear jeans a lot to work in because I wear jeans a lot. I like Wrangler cargo pants too, light weight, good quality, and cheap enough. I also wear these under my overalls.

Shirts: Short- and long-sleeve t-shirts, or Red Kap long-sleeves.

Coats: I have two heavy Carhartt coats, one hooded one not. I have a heavy Carhartt hooded fleece zip jacket that I like a lot. Carhartt is good quality and commonly available. I have a sherpa-lined Berne vest that I like and can wear over my fleece jacket/hoodies. Fleece hoodies of any brand.

Other: My overalls are Berne unlined. They're good quality and they're not Carhartts (nothing against Carhartt, I just don't want to be their walking advertisement). I have a pair of Walls insulated coveralls. Maybe next winter will be cold enough for them. Frogg Toggs for rain, they do their job..

Hats: I have a knit cap when it's cold and a safety orange ballcap when chainsawing in the woods. Otherwise nada, I'm not a hat guy.

Dickies zip up insulated sweatshirts and mechanics jackets. Still also have some cintas work pants left over but they have florescent yellow striping for safety. Also have florescent yellow bomber jacket thats super warm.

For boots I can only wear timberland pros. Anything else makes my feet hurt and I aint spending for high priced stuff over 200 cause they get ruined in 6 months (well they did when I was towing).

I wear jeans otherwise and plain gray t-shits you can buy at walmart. I tend to ruin everything..I had no nice clothes besides a suit, pair of khakis and a few sweaters, till I took an office job

There was a thread recently for "Wet weather work wear", but I would imagine East Texas weather just ain't quite the same as Western Oregon or Western Washington:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=344706

Basic stuff:
Wesco Jobmaster boots
Old denim jeans with a million patches on them if it's not raining.
Beat-up cotton canvas Carhartt lined work jacket if it's not pouring down rain.
Filson Tin Cruiser if it is pouring down rain.
Helly-Hansen rubber bibs and jacket if I have to be in the pouring down rain all day.
Filson Tincloth bush hat if it's raining

standard hard hat, custom safety glasses, custom fitted hearing protection, local brand moisture wicking t-shirt, Dickie work pants, and trying a pair of Ranger's from Shoes for Crews work boots next week. I also have a Helly-Hanson winter coat but it gets too hot for me.

Bernie's insulted bibs, blue jeans, t-shirt, and crew neck sweatshirt. I have one old stocking hat from a company long out of business but still the warmest hat I have found.

Boots: A problem Redwing 2238 steel toes, but they just stopped making them.

In the shop nothing special just uniform shirts and pants, same shoes Redwings.

I'm a home improvement guy and I love these Wrangler Riggs Carpenter pants in Bark. I like wearing them more than regular jeans for just walking around. https://www.wrangler.com/shop/men-c...wear-carpenter-pant-3w02p?variationId=3W020BR I cut the hammer loop off, it catches everything. These have a nice gusset in the crotch for lots of room.

For shirts I wear regular long and short-sleeved Carhartts with the pocket.

Bought a pair of Wolverine Raider shoes a few months ago and like them so far. They have durable and long lasting feel. http://www.wolverine.com/US/en/raid...r=W04818#cgid=men-footwear-work-shoes&start=1

If you have a Rural King near by they are simply the least expensive place to buy workwear.

In the IT field you have to wear clothes that don't look dirty so they don't have to think about how filthy their offices are. Especially under desks, I think I'd rather swim in the East River than go under some desks.

Cargo pants, often Old Navy (the older ones are surprisingly durable), Dickies, Duluth Fire hose pants. Think I have a pair of Carhartts too.

Flanel button downs in the winter, whatever plaid or solid button down in the summer. The more plaid, the less dust shows.

Die Hard oxfords.

On the weekends however the real work gets done.
Lots of Gravel gear, the best cheap pants unless Sears puts cman jeans on sale. I have a bunch of both.
dickies, carhartt, or whatever cheapo t shirts if its real hot out (cheap shirts are way thinner)
Red wings or walmart boots depending on the situation

I like the looks of the Riggs pants a lot, but I can't get past the big red and black tag on the back. I prefer inconspicuous labels.

day to day its a company supplied uniform. GK services ****. Unifirst had much better clothes. if its a really nasty job, I'll get out the Tyvek. If the SHTF then its a level A hazmat suit and an SCBA.

The Redwings I have are OK but the first chance I get to have a pair of Whites fitted again. I'll be trashing the RWs.

Another vote for the Wrangler Riggs. I wear them all the time - they are way more comfortable to work in than jeans, more versatile, and more durable. I also really like the knee pockets that accept knee pads!!!

I wish we could get Canadian work wear here. It's way better. I also wish we could get come Canadian Tire stores down here, also. (It's amazing that American civilization can exist without them.)

At home I wear the same clothes that they supplied me on my job. Dark blue, long sleeve shirts, heavy like Dickies and they're flame retardant. I use them whenever I do anything from working on the car to painting. They work out pretty great.

At work, I wear Roundhouse bib overalls (made in America), any old T-shirt, Redwing steel toe boots, and company-provided shop coat.

Around the property, I wear whatever is appropriate for the weather and job. I wear overalls up to about 75 F., then they get too hot, and I wear shorts. On a hot day, I don't wear much, unless I'm workin' the blackberry patch!

Red Wings or Walmart?
Walmart are made where ?
Riggs fit , wear & look good

yeah well I have odd size that is almost universally out of stock or not carried. 7-1/2 4E although in some brands 4E is still too narrow to be comfortable. So I got one nice pair of boots, and for ****** muddy wet snowy whatever that I don't want to put my nice ones into, I got a set of ****** beater boots.

I know there's a pair of walmart boots that fits, when they wear out I buy another, cheaper than buying higher end and waiting to find out if they will actually fit after they break in. Been down that road a few times.

Work provides Carhartt work pants and shirts. I wear long sleeves, due to the amount of welding I do. I have to wear a hat in the plant, so I have a Comeaux fitters cap I tend to wear, unless I'm just passing through, then I wear a baseball cap. Steel toe boots required, so I currently have a pair of Thorogood leather boots.

Working at home, I usually wear jeans and a tshirt. Flannel if its cold. I have several Carhartt coats and bibs for cold weather work.

I wouldn't change anything. I like the way Carhartt fits me, and they are comfortable.

When I am working in my shop or on projects outside:

Pants: I wear jeans a lot (almost exclusively) various brands preferably fairly light. But I recently found a pair of light weight but tough NATO military pants in a 2nd hand store $9. The knees have and extra layer of cloth and there are multiple pockets. They are very comfortable and I like them a lot. I have my eyes open for another pair or 2.

Shirts: Short-sleeve shirts from my gas station days (1970s). I constantly surprised they have survived. When cold an old sweatshirt over the shirt.

Hats: I have a knit cap when it's cold. Otherwise none, I'm not a cap guy either.

company provided uniforms, currently cintas, always long sleeve shirts, company provided garage jacket.
layers get added or subtracted as needed.

cold/wet weather and FRC gear is on us, i have a couple pair of walls insulated bibs. i get my FRC stuff from thrift stores.

winter boots are insulated & waterproof hunting boots, warm weather are whatever inexpensive steel toe boots that fit.

around the garage, i have a pair of jeans that dont really fit me anymore, couple pairs of FRC pants, & jackets. whatever T shirt is on top of the pile, and a couple old sweatshirts.

i dont get out away from the garage or work much...

I'm a big fan of Dickies carpenter jeans and both the short and long sleeve denim shirts. I wear them for just about everything, including welding.

I've got some Cintas coveralls for rolling around on the garage floor under the cars.

i will never wear another set of wolverines boots the rest of my life, I think they are ****. I usually go with timberland, justins, got a couple redwings, dont like redwings because they are tough to break in but never worn a pair out

jeans, I order the tan wranglers from wally world, in the south got go light colors due to heat, no blacks no blues.

shirt we have to wear the green, orange safety shirts, same with jackets but the company does buy carhart for the one week of cold.

if we can get away with it, its white pants, white shirts due to the heat
