Ok, the seller is asking $4500 for the stuff in this ad. That is all he is selling for that price:

http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/tls/1573442462.html

Tell me what you think this is worth.

I felt it was not worth his asking price and told him so. He tells me that I am not familiar with Snap On and I am looking for Craftsman ****.

So, give me some ideas asap so I can reply to him with an honest answer.

You know I hate people like that, I answered a guy on craigslist that was selling some SO sockets, I asked him how much and he told me 30.00 a socket. So I told him that was kind of high priced and he said that I was a fool, Snap-On sockets go for more than that and I had no clue what I was talking about. So I told him that unless those sockets can cook, clean, or give a good blow-job I think he was going to have a hard time selling those. He than hung up on me.

Nothing drops their monetary value quicker than used tools. They're always worth more in their potential for what they can do then what they're worth monetarily. Each individual used tool is only worth 25% of their new retail price.

I used to argue with people like this. Even send an email sometimes trying to educate them. Now I just sigh, say thanks & good luck, then hang up.

You will NOT convince them. They will list their "gold" on craigslist for 5 years without lowering the price, and never get a clue that they're asking too much.

I don't see $4500 either. Ask for an inventory. Price it all on Snap On's website & send it back to him. Prove that he is not familiar with Snap On.

I agree with all those who put the price around $2,000. If there are more tools not pictured, (remember you can only post 4 pics on CL), that's another story. Why not ask if there is more, and if he can send more pictures? If not offer $1,500 cash for a quick sale.

Yeah, I just hate it when someone posts and ad with no price and then asks for something ridiculous. Everyone calls him thinking there may be a good deal so he gets tons of calls. Every caller learns the price and tells him that he is a tard. By the fifth or sixth call he is pretty upset.

Every once in a while there are deals in those poorly written and picturless ads

That looks like one of the School sets. So chances are he got 50% of retail anyway.

Used tool worth as I understand it: well used but working = 25% of cost, very good to good condition = 40%, light use or as new = 60%.

Get the lowdown as previously mentioned on what the part numbers of the tools are and work from there. I think you guys are somewhat low on your estimates if those tools are in excellent condition.

In my guess there is no way that stuff cost over 5K to begin with, so this guy is a joker for sure.

Out of my mind... Be back soon!
A few of the pics look like the camera only got part of the stuff (i.e. the one where all you see on the one edge is a chuck for an air tool). But unless there is a LOT more, I think even $1500 may be just the fair market value of the stuff, not a particularly great deal.

As for trying to educate sellers, the response is so consistently annoyed (and annoying) that I've stopped trying unless they actually ask me for info. If they ask, I'll answer honestly but otherwise I'll just thank them for their time and move on.

I don't care about convincing them. I'll make the effort to send them an email sometimes just to let them know they're full of sh/t...in a nice way of course. The more outrageous their price is, the more pissed off their response is! :lol_hitti

btw, I love the ads with the unrealistic prices, then there will be a line at the end that says something like, don't even waste my time trying to go lower

The tools are worth $4500 if the deal includes $3500 in gold bars that they forgot to include in the picture.

Send the seller a link to this thread.
