Take it apart and see what's going on inside. If you're lucky it just needs cleaning and lubrication.

Yes it's backwards.
Call snap on. Likely they will ship you a rebuild kit for free. Worst case the kit retails for $10.

Yup. In all my years of collecting this is much more often the case than a ratchet that's actually broken .

Looks similar in vintage to my little Ferret F-70N I picked up at a flea market months ago. I'm not a snap on collector/expert, but mine is date coded "G" for government as a 1945 date code. I guess it's also good to still have the brass selector switch as it's no longer available. Also read that if its a "G" or "E" (emergency-1944) it's not warrantied, just like any of the snap on stuff made for the government.
Not real valuable, I don't guess. I paid $15 for mine which seems to be around market value. But I like the history of it and my fiancé likes to use it when she helps me.
I definitely think it's worth it to rebuild it. I'm sure the experts will let you know which kit will fit. Yours seems to be great condition cosmetically.

I opened it up and both of the gears are broken into pieces... Guess it needs some help.
Did you have a pic of the internals?

It looks like it was put together wrong snap on should fix that under warranty if the internals are broke find a truck or call snap on to get a repair kit

Snap on will uisually warranty tools even second hand, also my "g" code gov ratchet head striped and S O said no warranty, so took the head kit out and put it in another handle, then no problem. But I have bought S O for years and have many thousand of $$ worth.

It's the opposite of what you stated. The drive is on the selector side.

According to my dealer, they will rebuild very old model ratchets, but not replace them...

A good find for a dollar!
These older Snap On ratchets can get quite a build up of grit and grime inside which can stop 'em turning. First thing to do is take it apart, clean and oil!
The square drive is in backwards, and sometimes, when they get do worn and start slipping, you can get a little extra life by reversing the square drive. If this is the case, you will need a rebuild kit!
