Would a 'Lighting' forum be too much to ask for?

I am now looking into updating my fixtures in my garage (sorry no pictures yet) and would like to see what other people are doing as far as: style of fixtures, placement, mounting, florescent vs. incandescent etc... Whenever I venture over to this site, I almost already expect there to be a lighting forum, but there isn't. Do you think we need a :shocking: Lighting :shocking: section?

With an increasing number of lighting questions I could agree. Maybe a "lighting and electrical section" :shocking: Alot of people have questions on both but they may not be big enough topics on their own.

IMO, NO. Take you as an example. You want to install a florescent 4 ft tube in the garage.

WE would have to start at the beginning. Are you from planet Earth? Do you have elect.? What is the voltage? Is the weather cold in the winter? These questions could be answered by your city/state/country. We respect your privacy.

Now, Who would respond? This is a great question as some board members are in the trade, or been there, done that. Voltage @ 120 is not such a big deal. However If it requires going into a circuit box....well to the un-knowledgeable person it's like defusing a bomb. It's not that hard, but screw-ups can be fatal.

Then again "USE the SEARCH function" See what happens.

I respect your input, however the only way this site can and will progress is with useful content that can potentially help and inspire the users of the site. I can't search if there isn't search-able relevant content. I would rather find out the correct way of doing things before starting a project, than asking after the problem has occurred and I am up ****-creek. The point of a "Lighting and Electrical" section would somewhat be a way to prevent future accidents and mistakes.

I thought this was an online community based on the concept of sharing ideas and knowledge, not some e-thug hangout.

YOU could also elect to not reply if ascertaining background information is too irritating for you.

And why would someone ask their "city/state/country" if "they are from planet Earth? Do they have elect.? What is the voltage? Is the weather cold in the winter?"

I like the idea of tossing around different lighting ideas and seeing examples.

I think it is a valid question for discussion and not worthy of the "use the search feature" tongue-lashing.

"How do I prep for epoxy?" is worthy of the tongue lashing. Especially because there is a whole dedicated flooring section.

I'd be interested to know if the lighting/electrical section would get equal/more traffic as the heating/cooling section?

This also might be better posed in the feedback to the mods section.

I will post a link in that thread directing them here.

Thanks

Wow, this is the type of reply I would expect on some Honda forum but not here.

As for a lighting section I think that would be pretty useful. There is a lot of knowledge and benefit to be gained. I understand some things could be fatal but I believe whether there is a lighting forum or not people will still try to attempt their hand at it. At least with a lighting forum you could pick up some tips and tricks that make it NOT fatal.

Thats how discussion works. Somebody asks a question someone with more knowledge needs more information to answer what seems like a simple question to someone with knowledge so they ask another question.

Privacy thing has to do with have you seen some of the mega buck garages around here? even the lesser ones have a ton of money in tools and cars... I just never displayed my location but I have not asked any location specific questions yet.. not too concerned with the privacy myself but I can see how some people would not want to broadcast to the world where they keep their toys.

Thanks for taking the suggestion! When I was working on my lighting and my electrical work it would have been handy to have it all in one location to browse!

I respect your view. However I can not agree because IMO I can not understand how a state would pin point where you live.

IMO again ,I would hope that people with expensive "Toys" would have safeguards in place ie. insurance being one.

IMO , It was in bad taste for ME to start this argument as I don't wish to win it as everyone has their views. Therefore YOU WIN!!
