Would adding RV garage features greatly broaden appeal?

Four legged critters currently do the lawn maintenance. I still need to put up a fence for the yard.

I operate on a cash basis and currently I am out. I want to have my toys in a new playscape. I cant so I am gonna " what if " for a while.

I have spent a stupidly large amount of time in the last five or six years looking at real estate. A lot of it inspired thinking along the lines of "what the hell were they thinking?" and "more money than sense (or taste, depending)". I am sure when each was started the owner said " I've got a great idea".

I couldn't agree more with you. About people's taste that is, I am not an animal person so don't understand the whole animals in the yard thing. I grew up on a dairy farm and farmed until I was in my mid-20's and now NEVER want to have to deal with animals ever again.:willy_nil

When the wife and I were looking for a new home last year I walked away from more than I would care to admit shaking my head thinking "what the hell were they thinking." Most we looked at tried to either reinvent the wheel or come up with something "new" or what they thought to be an ingenious way of doing something but in the end all they did was create a property that either didn't sell or they had to drop the price so severely in order to sell it. Maybe it's just me but I seem to be a fan of the KISS principle and many times less is more.

Trust me, I am NOT a real estate person, but I feel I have common sense and I also feel like I have a good eye or feel for things that are aesthetically pleasing vs. something that sticks out like a sore thumb and when we were looking I couldn't believe how down right unappealing some places were.

I hope to NEVER have to deal with real estate ever again as that is not my forte. I will stick with what I know and what I am good at.:D Especially now that we have our dream home and I have my dream shop/RV garage in the back yard.

Good luck with your place.

Lol. The animals in the yard thing is unintentional. My tiny acreage is part of a larger parcel that is ag exempt. The livestock really belongs next door. The dogs and the stock have an uneasy truce. I plan to put up a proper white picket . A pretty big cost overrun kinda put all plans on hold.

I grew up on a dairy also. I kinda like livestock. At least until I have to haul something to the vet.

LOL - our hobby is looking at open houses. Agree. In the past several years, we've seen one (1) house that was well done, well thought out, had the "extra GJ touch" in upgraded systems and such. Things like a game room off the pool/patio with carpet designed to be wet and not wear or shrink, baht with changing area, etc. Keep the summer kid traffic contained in a kid frendly space and such. Beautiful and mid $300K. The spacious office with a view of the landscaped patio with pool was worth a good half that figure LOL.

The front bedroom in the house we bought here had royal blue walls and ceiling with neon green trim. Pink counter tops with yellow dining room walls. Spiffy. Lots of Kiltz LOL.

That's funny Chris, and I wasn't even talking about colors. The colors we saw in homes was just horrendous. I was talking more about floorplans and/or layout of the house than merely colors. I could not believe the places people put stairways and walls. Either breaking up an otherwise nice open space or putting a stairwell in the middle of the room, either way I scratched my head thinking "what the hell.":headscrat

One of the first things I liked about the house we purchased was the stairwell going up to the bonus room is also the same wall or plane that the stairwell going down to the basement is on. So no wasted space and the stairwell is neatly tucked in under the one going up to the bonus room therefore no intrusion into the rooms or wasted square footage. This was the first house we looked at in probably 30+ that was like this and I would have thought it would be standard practice because it makes perfect sense to not create wasted space. Again, back to the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) theory.

Cities where I live have become very restrictive on garage sizes. I ended up 30 miles from downtown Minneapolis to buy a house where I could build a large garage for my RV. My hour long commute *****, but I made the choice.

I looked at a house close in with an RV garage that was five feet too short. The city said no expansion of the RV garage due to zoning code changes.

Stairways like that are standard in the commercial world.

Being shown websites like that is why I am spending time on GJ!

Yes, I really want to nail down my version of the "ultimate" garage/ house/extra spaces on the first attempt. I dont want the local dog catcher or whatever to pop up and prevent one of those " I wish I had thought of that" mods.
